4-0 out of 5 stars Good resource...
As the subtitle "Building a Winning Team" implies, the book touches on the various aspects required to building a team. The authors do an admirable job of providing a wealth of information across a broad spectrum of topics. If you're interested in a general guide with the basics this is the book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stop swinging like a "Sunday morning duffer"
A complete mechanical overhaul. That's what this book is about. Don't expect the "magic moves" to be simple adjustments that you can make over the course of a week.I've read this book three times, and practiced countless hours trying to emulate the proper swing.I can now say that it was all worth it, as my shots now have more power, and my wicked slice is all but forgotten.
5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Is My Holy Grail
I have played golf for 45 years and my lowest handicap was 5.I have read and reread every single instructional book, including Hogan,Leadbetter,Ballard,Nicklaus,as well as The Golfing Machine
5-0 out of 5 stars Golf Medicine You Won't OD On
I've read countless magazines and books and watched too many forgetable instructional DVDs through the years. So much of the instruction and tips are irrelevant, conflicting, and/or down right wrong.Finding this book a few years ago was like finding golf's holy grail.I haven't had a "bad" ball stricking day since I picked it up.Knowing what I know now, I'd given thousands of dollars for this information - what it teaches is priceless. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for beggining marathoners!
This book makes it easy for a runner who wants to jump to the marathon level. It gives you a step by step training guide along with nutrtional tips as well.

2-0 out of 5 stars too short.
I am training for my first marathon and thought this book would be a good resource. It's got some good motivational stuff, but the book is just about basics; I didn't feel it had any "meat" so to speak. You can read it cover to cover in an hour or so, and I didn't come away with anymore information than I could find on marathon websites. Save your ten bucks and do the research on the net, buy a different book, or even better - join a marathon training group headed by a veteran marathoner.BTW, I did pick up Nancy Clark's marathon nutrition book - that is a great resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars easy training guide!
I went from a 4:40 marathon to a 4:24 marathon (2nd marathon). Not bad!I'm using this training plan again and going for 4:15.I like this book because it cuts to the chase, it's easy to read and just gives the basics. There are training plans for longer times than 4 hours as well. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for really knowing baseball
I am a huge Dummies fan. So when I recently decided to learn more about baseball, I naturally turned to the Dummies guide. What I found was a book that, true to its name, does help a person who knows absolutely nothing about baseball. If you knew nothing about baseball, you could pick up this guide and read the first 3 chapters, and become conversant.
5-0 out of 5 stars Joe Morgan is a genius!
If you think someone whose ego is bigger than the Pampas of Argentina can ever be a genius. Because I find that ego usually clouds intellectual process. And if my line of reasoning is correct, Joe Morgan is the stupidest person in the world.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for a new fan
I got hooked watching the Boston Red Sox in the 2004 post season, but I realized that I was very ignorant about baseball.I bought this book in the spring, and it taught me an incredible amount about baseball.I now watch almost every Red Sox game and enjoy the games much more through understnnding the basics and a lot of the subtleties.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for the neophyte, nothing new
This is a good book to have if you know nothing about nutrition and want to learn some of the basics. You can collect all the basic information here through general Internet research. True, it's nice to have it all in one place in a logical format, but I really expected much more detailed advice for a book targeted specifically to endurance athletes than 'you need to manage your carbohydrates over the length of the event'-type advice. Not worth the money in my opinion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to digest (sorry!) and helped my riding a lot
Ryan's writing is clear and effective. I had some of the basic concepts, but reading her book really clarified how to eat before, during, and after long bike rides. Since reading her book I've set a number of PRs for long rides, due in large part to changing my pre-ride and recovery eating habits. I strongly recommend this book to any endurance athlete who wants to feel better while running or cycling. It's the next-best thing to seeing a nutritionist in person (which I also recommend).

5-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile Sports Nutrition Book
As a coach, I want my athletes to not only be training well, but using sound nutritional strategies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Damn good!!!
This book is the best. I've bought several books on golf and most of them emphasize more on swing mechanics and curing slices and hooks. However, Golf54 is different by stressing more on one's mental and emotional stability which definitely affects one's swing and also one's life. It's more to achieving harmony within one's self so that one's mind and body can work together prior to striking the ball. A bad swing is not necessarily caused by a faulty swing; but probably by a 'bad' state of mental awareness and emotion. This can be the reason for inconsistency during a golf game or practice. This book revolutionized my way of seeing my golf swing and understanding the reason behind my good shot and my bad shot. I should have bought this book earlier before investing on other golf book that touches more on the conventional way of learning golf through technical or mechanical view. You can have a good game one day and have a bad game the next day and you thought that it is solely caused by your swing? Buy this book and you'll understand what I mean. The best book I've bought!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good premise but doesn't meet expectations
I was caught up by the title of this book and after skimming a few pages decided to buy it. After getting more deeply into it, however, I realize that it doesn't live up to its hype, in my opinion.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Explanation of What It takes to Succeed at Golf and Life

5-0 out of 5 stars Where we went wrong
My game went through something of a transformation not long ago, and for the worse. Swinging a club was a burden, because I couldn't do it "right". The motion held no joy, and depression set in as I watched the ball fly everywhere but where I hoped it would go.
5-0 out of 5 stars Seriously - if you only own 1 golf book, make this the one!
Fred Shoemaker gently and persuasively reminds us that golf is an experience, rather than a result. It's only by being aware and in the moment that we can really enjoy the experience - or play our best.Yet, as he clearly illustrates, the "Culture of Golfers" is to focus on the results and on what's wrong with our game... which robs us of both the enjoyment, and the potential to play to our full ability.
5-0 out of 5 stars fabulous
I loved this book.I hadn't played golf in 10 years, went out after reading this book and had sooooo much more fun and consequently, played sooo much better.I am amazed that my game can improve so much just from reading a book.I loved the philosophy it puts forth and have even tried applying it just to daily life.I have given this book as a gift to most everyone I know that plays golf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Information overload
How much to you think you know about putting? Read greens, roll the ball at the hole, etc.. Guess what? You probably don't know the half of it.
5-0 out of 5 stars the best book you can buy to improve your putting
an easy to read book. it explains to the core the "art" of putting. Mr. Pelz is a solid golf instructor / analyst. If you are serious in being a better golfer then this is a must - read book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Art of Expressing the Human Body
There was a time that I was skeptical that a 145 lb., 5'7", individual could have anything to offer as far as offering instruction on building tremendous physical strength and acheiving combat skills that are rivaled by few. This book deals with the first point...that of building tremendous physical strength which would be utilized for acheiving excelling combat skills. Great insight into the mind of a man who I once doubted could acheive such greatness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Technique is wisdom. To train is power.
What an outlandishly brilliant collection of Bruce Lee's personal training regimine. This is utterly priceless for its detail and stark showing of Bruce's true grit.It was a fight at a local dojo instigated by a rival martial arts group in China Town, San Francisco (actually they disapproved, as many did, Bruce's teaching such high quality lessons to Americans - really can't blame them) that spurred Bruce on to investigate and finally put to practice the lessons of bodybuilding and strength training.Extreme conditoning also - i.e. lots of cardio (2-6 mile jogs; 45 minute stationary biking; interval training, where you sprint several hundred yards then jog, then sprint, then jog and so on).
1-0 out of 5 stars Dont' bother
I was very disappointed in this book. It's not quite sure what it's supposed to be, and so, ends up being nothing. There are endless lists of workout routines that Bruce Lee supposedly used. But, they usually have little or no explanation, so are useless. There is no, repeat no, nutritional info that you can't find in a free booklet in any supermarket. There are weight training guidelines for rank beginners, but nothing that hasn't been done better by weight training or martial arts magazines.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Lefties
I am lefthanded, and I also golf lefthanded. As any leftie golfer will tell you, reading golf instructions books and articles is a challenge, since they are typically written with a "right" oriented golfer in mind. Mr. La Torre was courteous enough to insert comments for us lefties, so as to make it easier to follow.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not Really Ernest
Mr. De La Torre claims to teach the Ernest Jones method (which produced numerous national champions on both sides of the Atlantic) but then pollutes the Jones method by taking the hands out of the downswing. After unsuccesfully trying Manuel's method for a while, I happened upon Arnie Frankel's Golf's One Motion video. It is a much more straight forward presentation of the Jones method.Understanding the Golf Swing misses the mark.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected ...either
I agree with the previous reviewer that what De La Torre teaches isn't really close to what Ernest Jones prescribes. Not that it's a bad book - it's just that I bought it in hopes of elaborating on the Swing the Clubhead concept - which it just briefly touches upon.

If you presently train with a power meter on your bike or are thinking of getting one, this is a must-read book.Authors Hunter Allen and Dr. Andy Coggan are eminently qualified to write this book which is the first full-length book devoted solely to the subject of training (and racing) with an on-bike power meter.Hunter allen is a full time coach of cyclists and triathletes who uses the power meter as a key element in his training approach.Dr. Coggan is renowned as a widely published exercise physiologist and is also an avid master's cyclist.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have book for youth basketball coaches
I have coached kids (boys and girls) in basketball of ages 4-12, this book provided the best information on what to do and what to expect.Particularly, the part of patience, repetition/reinforcement, and the fundalmentals. The recommended offensive plays (post interchange, wheel, shuffle, etc.) and defensive strategies (whether man-to-man or zone) are excellent.Additionally, the chapters on vision, motivational phrases, and running a practice are worth reading. The author recommends the use of parents during practice time, called "stations" to maximize proper skill development. This book is a must for those interested in coaching youth basketball.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good book on B.Ball for youth, with tips for parents
This book does a good job of covering the basics, including the fundemental of shooting, dribbling, passing, pick and roll, give and go, fakes, etc. with good photos.Good section on defense fundamentals too. There are also sections on offense and defense (both man-to-man & zone)with diagrams. There are sections for coaches including running a practicecomplete with a check list.A good section for parents is added completewith motivational phrases.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Practical Guide To Coaching youth Basketball
A woderful book. Short (156 pp.) and highly readable,McCarthy makes it all very simple.McCarthy covers the fundamentals (footwork, dribbling, rebounding, etc.) but intersperses his text with invaluable practicaladvice -- e.g., "I always say to drive as close to a defender aspossible. If he reacts and moves back into that lane, he will commit afoul."There is also a great emphasis on team play, and how toencourage kids to pass and play a team game. I have played and coachedbasketball for twenty five years. While this book covers enough basics fora novice, it also contains many valuable insights that I use in coaching a12 and under youth program today. ... The second edition (2001) of this work is indeed an outstanding resource. My daily work includes imaging of sports and musculoskeletal injuries.I find this book frequently useful to supplement deficiencies in my knowledge and experience, and a most useful companion to the second edition (2001) of "Musculoskeletal Ultrasound" by Marnix van Holsbeeck and Joseph Introcaso.5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for physical therapists - incredible value
This is an astounding book. When was the last time you saw a 900+ page hard cover book packed with useful photographs and excellent line drawings...The practical advice in this book is unparalleled. No wonder it is an international best-seller. It arrived quickly and well packed from Amazon. Keep up the good work and thanks!

The Second edition of Clinical Sports Medicine is the best reference book I have come across as an athletic therapist and professional fitness and lifestyle consultant. I find it very easy to navigate with great illustrations and information. The references are all very recent and evidence-based so you feel confident in following the authors' recommendations. It is particularly good value at 67 US dollars - most hardcover books of this size are about twice that price. The corresponding website has updated information, including relevant published papers, which I find quite helpful also. These authors have really done a fabulous job of classifying sports medicine information in a logical and easy-to-use format. The author expertly guides the reader through the entire coaching process. Not only the sport and the basics, but also the the most important parts of coaching youths: planning, preperation and Parents!I am also impressed with the in-depth examination of the differences of coaching girls and boys.I definately recommend this book for new coaches of girls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it, you won't be sorry!
This a very good basketball book for new, aspiring or even coaches with 2-3 years experience ... even if, like me, you are just a parent looking for ways to help your daughter take it to the next level.

1-0 out of 5 stars Junk
I planned to write that this book is useless, but it is actually worse - it is downright annoying. Unless you are interested in how Lance surfs the net after a training ride or who his girlfriend is, you will find it far too vague to be of any value.

4-0 out of 5 stars A "must have" for every cyclist
Lance's name and picture on the book's cover has the major selling appeal. However, it's also the book's drawback. Why? The book says that "inside you find the exercises, ridind schedules, endurance builders, and mental tricks that brought Lance back to the pinnacle of cycling". Sorry, but you will not find this in the book. The book is obviously written by Chris Charmichal, not Lance. You will find in the book every aspect of cycling a beginner should know. An expert that lacks training discipline will also find the book very usefull. But as mentioned before, you will not find Lance's training regiment to win Tour the France. If the book have had the following title, "The Chris Carmichael Performance Program for Cyclists", it should have earned 5 stars. As a "Lance Armstrong Performance Program", it earns just 4.

5-0 out of 5 stars addicted to cycling

5-0 out of 5 stars thanks
I never thought I could or would run a triathlon, but this book really helped me train. It was a great guide and plan for the winter, and hopefully I'll be able to compete in the spring.Without this I'd be lost.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful workout program
The triathlon program was thorough and easy to follow.I started the program less than 2 weeks ago and I can already see results.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars looks good
This book looks very good.Other books concentrate on total fitness for triathlon with only limited emphasis on weight training, while this book puts all of its emphasis on weight training and is the perfect supplement to any other triathlon book. The programs appear to be very easy to follow. I look forward to putting it to good use. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Read This Book Before The Big Match/Outing
I am not a distinguished golfer by any means, but I have an annual competitive golf trip with buddies that stirs my competitive juices at the start of the golf season. Rather than take a golf lessson (which would just confuse the heck out of me so close to competition), I bought and read this book. It made all the difference in the world as far as my mental attitude was concerned. I was able to keep a positive attitude after my (inevitable) poor golf shots, and I celebrated my good ones.
