5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to keep your workout goal oriented and interesting
This book is great!I have always had a problem falling into a workout rut, and this book has designed a fun golf workout that changes every two weeks. I would recommend this book or any book in this series to someone who is training for a specific sport. The book is simple to read and you can download blank workout sheets from their website so you can track your progress. The book also has pictures explaining each exercise that is well organized by muscle group.Golf season has not started yet but I am looking forward to getting out there and crushing some great shots.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Edition is Way Better
I'm a multi sport athlete who trains all year round regardless of what sport I play. I bought a few of these Ultimate Guide to Weight Training books, and they definitely helped me train specifically for the different sports that I play. Then about a year later I received an email from amazon that there was a new edition out. These upgraded editions are even better than the originals, with more articles and a lot more sport-specific information. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who plays a lot of sports or wants to specifically focus on training for one sport in particular.

1-0 out of 5 stars Correct aim, poorly executed
Being a hack golfer I'm open to anything that will help my game. Although I do stretch prior to every game, I was doing only the stretches I was familiar with from years of playing raquetball and suspected I was missing some key stretches for pre- and post golf. In other words, I know I could do a better job. 3-0 out of 5 stars Weak impression
I am far from being the most athletic person in the world. This was one of the reasons I became interested in fitness for golfers. I do, however, know how to set up a regular stretching routine from high school gym classes, and found little new here to add to the exercises I already knew.3-0 out of 5 stars Lacks a routine
Though this book does contain a comprehensive list of stretches, it lacks a solid routine for their use.The author states that you can improve your game in 10 minutes a day, but it would take quite a bit longer than that to complete the 30+ exercises. The only routine offered does not incorporate the exercises into a daily routine. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Only One Thing To Say About This...
If you are a golfer interested in flexibility - get this book!
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent routines
You probably have noticed that when your body is loose, you play better. If any of your golf muscles is tight, chances are your swing becomes inconsistent, no matter how much concentration you put into it. So instead of buying another golf swing book, do yourself a favor and get this one. This book offers a pre-game warm-up routine, a post-game stretch routine. These two alone will help you keep those muscles loose. In addition to that you will find a number of exercises to enhance both flexibility and power.
4-0 out of 5 stars Hit's the nail on the head!
Golf Flex is an excellent guide for both flexibility and strength. If you've ever been confused with stretching for golf as I've been, then read this book. Clear, concise, simple and mirrors the exact protocal of the american collage of sports medicine.

Editorial Review

Golf may be a sport you can enjoy from youth through AARP membership, but a 50-year-old man can't play the game the same way he did at 25. With a loss of flexibility comes a loss of power, and unless you adjust your swing, you'll lose accuracy, too. In response to the limitations that age brings, the authors of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An ounce of prevention...
This book is the best book I've ever read on golf related injuries. This book is a must for anyone who wants to enjoy playing golf for a lifetime. This book not only prescribes treatment for existing injuries, but also gives valuable advice on how to avoid them. Pick it up.

2-0 out of 5 stars Average on basics, weak on prevention

4-0 out of 5 stars Good gift for Dad w/ high handicap, a bit basic for others
Gary Player is one of the fittest, if not the fittest, senior players out there so he certainly has ample authority to speak about staying fit.The tone and level of this book are pretty clearly directed toward the older golfer and with good reason - the people most likely to pick a book off the shelf with Gary on the front and to connect with/relate to him are those in his generation. But there is enough good stuff in here to help the 30-something who has never really stretched before a round and doesn't regularly work out - it's exactly these people who can't quite figure out why they can't break 90 that could also sorely benefit from a kick in the a** from a basic fitness book like this. The stretches, weightlifting and other exercises are fairly basic and most don't require any special equipment or gym membership - good for those I've mentioned above, but probably not new to anybody who works out regularly.1-0 out of 5 stars Great book for 25 years ago, not current!
Please! A great idea 25 years ago, but I think the best in-shape player is Mr. Woods, period. This book was like Jack Lalane meets golf, lot's of enthusiasm but not current training.

1-0 out of 5 stars Diffilult Yoga for men
This book is a waste of time for anyone wanting to learn yoga. The poses are held for too long for beginners which makes them very difficult. The audio CD is very hard to follow and there is too much mystical yoga horse manure in the book.Try Yoga for Dummies or Yoga for Health by Richard Hittleman instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent guide to yoga for men!
This book is a great guide to yoga!I particularly like the way it spells out all of the benefits of yoga in a user-friendly format.I also liked the comparison of yoga to business. Finally, a yoga book I can relate to!I would recommend this to any guy looking to get healthy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Average. "Yoga for Dummies" is a far better introduction
I bought this book hoping that I could get started with yoga on my own. As a beginner's introduction to yoga, it is rather unsuccessful in that it uses terminology without defining it first and has photographic illustrations that do not show the key points of the yoga positions as clearly as the drawings in "Yoga for Dummies."Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Generic Basic Fitness
Compared to other books like Complete Golf Conditioning, etc, this is really generic fitness with the word golf added.I was really disappointed in the nutritional section as I am diabetic and there were only high-sugar options which I had to make. Out of all the golf fitness books I bought in the last 2 months, this was the worst by far.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tiger must be reading this book, too!
After looking at the way Tiger has taken HIS game to the NEXT LEVEL, I know one factor is his level of fitness that is undoubtedly surpassing the rest of the field. This book has given me a new body and a new attitude toward the game of golf as well. I am playing with much more energy and control, both physically and mentally than ever before! If Tiger can be the example for being in great shape, why can't WE ALL learn from HIM??? I know I HAVE!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great complement to Nutritional Leverage for Great Golf

One of the biggest mistakes non-golfers and even casual duffers make about the Royal and Ancient game is assuming you don't have to be in shape to play it. The truth is, golf can be an exhausting affair. You can't be a physical wreck and play golf consistently well; as in any sport, the better your condition, the better your chance of success. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great workout for your golf game and your life
I thought this was a great basic book on fitness for your golf game.Ernie and David cover stretching, weights, cardio, nutrition, and some injury prevention. The book is less than 150 pages long, so it doesn't go into great detail on any one of the subjects, but I thought that each chapter did cover the subject adequately. The authors give two different suggested workout programs. One for beginners and the other more advanced.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on golf fitness.
Els does it again. He focuses on the essentials that will help the reader's golf game only now it involves conditioning. Now, I find it amusing that people complaining about "knowing" already of the excercises Els recommends but are they actually doing them?Sure, it's easy for someone to mouth off and say that this book isn't offering anything new but the fact is, they looked up the book for a reason. That's Els MO when it comes to instruction. He expects the reader to actually follow his advice.(Imagine that!)He may be showing simple excercises but the bottom line is, as simple as they are, they work. The reader has to simply committ to doing them

5-0 out of 5 stars Covers Golf and Basic Fitness Well
Good coverage of golf and muscles used in the swing.I was easily able to use the exercises and training plan at the gym. Also, I didn't realize how important aerobic training was for golf, so that section got me moving in that direction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Balanced, Eagle for Golf and Overall Health
I decided my golf needed some extra power, so I searched the books and gave this one a try.I was on the Body for Life program, switchted to this after 3 weeks of that, and not only is my golf better but I lost an extra10 pounds. I found the nutrition section a good overview and was well worththe price of the book in that I was able to balance out my meals better andI got some good ideas about how to eat on the course(threw out the gatoradeand got some bars with a little bit of fat). Another thing was this was theonly golf exercise book that really bothered to list references for theideas and information, so I felt the author really put some thought andtime into this.

2-0 out of 5 stars Simple, interesting, but ineffective for me
My first thought when encountering this book was that the claims were too outrageous.Thirty yards is a lot, especially after only 6 weeks. However, I think it's silly to spend thousands of dollars on clubs and green fees and not be willing to spend a few bucks for a book.5-0 out of 5 stars Doubt it would work but it did.
I was the not sure if this program would work.Worked out hard over the winter with Body for Life.Did not seem to be getting any stronger and the diet was killing me.I have since discovered I am a diabetic.Decided to try the progam and I am amazed at the increase in my stength. In 4 weeks I have gone from 150 lbs. in the bench press to 286.Other exercises show the same result.Have I increased my drives yes and all other clubs.Hit the ball more consistent.Length increase with driver 15 to 20 yards.Buy the book and give it and honest chance. You will be susprised.Only problem is I have maxed out all of the machines at the Y and I am having to move over to free weights.

How much gall does it take to charge $15.00 for 18 tiny pages?I feel so used....

5-0 out of 5 stars Nicely Done
After investing a lot of money on clubs, balls, lessons, etc.. I thought I might invest in myself a bit. This book has actually helped me improve my game and increased my distance! While my buddies are teeing off I'm doing some of the stretches and I feel so much looser and relaxed it's really helped my swing. All the stretches are well described, well illustrated, and easy to do, plus I'm not sore after the round either. Now I have my buddies wondering what that little book in my golf bag is and why I'm hitting the ball past them.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great research, lousy exercises
The research presented is interesting and suggests that the exercises would be effective. Instead, it is just more of the same old stuff. I can't see how this program is likely to help a golfer.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK book, needs an update
Not a bad book, just a little outdated from some of the information and training techniques the trainers use at my athletic club. Doesn't show enough stomach work in my estimation or work with common weight machines.

5-0 out of 5 stars Golf is a game that matures like wine
And like fine wines, if you intend for things to turn out well in the long term, you have to set the starting conditions up right.Hospitals and clinics (and golf courses) are packed with people living in pain as aresult of unwise swinging.Since it has long ago been determined thattiming and flexibility, more than strength and aggression, are the keys toconsistency and power in golf, you might be interested in an approach thatprepares your body for just that.Simple, direct, and backed by validresearch. This book will bring results. It is a great contribution tosports medicine.More pars to you! ...
