Very good book
This is a very good book, as all of Halberstam's books have been that I have read.Nothing particularily about Bill's life stands out about the book as it is all very interesting.Bill did separate from his wife of twenty-some years in 2005.The book goes into a lot of detail on his father's coaching career.

Phenomenal book - for Belichick fans (only)
If youare a Bill Belichick fan, a Patriots fan, or a football fan (in that order) you will enjoy this book. Very detailed. Halberstam is a terriffic writer. Only he could dig this deep into the life of an otherwise (forgive me Pats fans) boring guy and piece together the journey of his life, his upbringing and his experiences which prepared him for the pinnacle of football success.

Great Book!
This book is another great in the series of A Baffled Parent's Guide.These books are thorough and complete - a coach's bible, especially a new coach.The book covers everything from basics of the game to working with the children and dealing with the parents.I highly recommend books from this series.

good book for beginning coaches
I have yet to coach a girls' softball team, but I am really interested in doing it.This book has some great advice on how to handle beginner players and their parents.The thing about this book that I found great was that it told you some characteristics to look for when selecting a pitcher, something that I would not have had a clue about doing.Highly recommended.

Excellent for beginner or experienced coach
This is an AMAZING book! Even if you have never coached,played, or even heard of softball, it helps you out. It breaks every aspect of the game down and puts it in simple terms so you can explain it to your team. It gives you practice advice and schedules as well as drills you can use for team members to improve, or establish, softball skills. Must have...
This is a must have for any Razorback fan.Guz simplifies this complex system.This book shows you how to truly control the game by setting an almost unbelievable pace, lengthening the game, and just good strategy.

What makes this book so effective is that the advice offered is not only solid, but it can be applied immeditely. It's a "hands on" doer's guide. The strength Ken Blanchard brings is his strong Christian influence. Shula's credentials consist of his long term track record as an NFL coach. Avid football fans who are also readers will be engrossed.

A Legend Remembered
I read this book from cover to cover very quickly. The book was both revealing to me about the more human side of Coach Bryant as well as a wonderful opportunity to walk down the memory lane of Alabama football in the 1970s. To me the book was more of a compilation of thoughts, notes, and interviews through the years, but in its own way provides a unique kind of insight to the John Wayne of college football coaches.
COMPREHENSIVE WORK
In researching my book about the 1970 USC-Alabama game, SEPTEMBER 1970, I interviewed Allen Barra. In that interview, in this fine book, THE LAST COACH, and in media interviews, he has demonstrated that he is not provincial. Rather, Barra knew as much about the USC angle as the Alabama angle. Obviously, THE LAST COACH goes well beyond the 1970 Trojan-Crimson Tide game and its segregation-ending implications, but Barra does not try to whitewash what it was or was not. The fact is, Bear Bryant and John McKay teamed up to do something great, and in losing that day, the "real winner was Alabama," as Jim Murray of the L.A. Times observed.

Super book for junior coaches
Tom Bass does a great job in keeping this book simple for junior level coaches. It covers most every aspect of football coaching for youth. The only negative is the age of the book, which degraded my score from 5 to 4 stars. I would immediately purchase an updated book - if it becomes available someday.

The Most Thorough Position Book - A Must Have !!!
Onceyou look at the table of contents you will see that this book is complete. Every position, a ton of variable technique, and information on personal adjustments.
The Best Technique Coaching Book There Is
Forget what the other reviewer said about not good for youth football.That's horse-hooey.Granted some of what is discussed is not going to work for youth, but much of it will.I am a youth coach.I own and am reading 50 plus books on coaching football.This is the best nuts-and-bolts book there is.Buy it and use it.Coach Bass does consider youth in his book.Just read the tackling instructions where he discusses fear of tackling in youth players and how to best overcome it.The book is well organized around positions and has tons of pictures of the techniques in action.The book has many times more pictures than any other book, save perhaps George Allens' book "Inside Football" might be a close second -- though much older.

I am looking in to coaching for fun and this is a great book to have.There is a lot of coaching information and great football information in general.

Super Book
I really enjoyed this book quite a bit. My boy finished football season a while ago and I decided to get more involved for this upcoming season by coaching. The details and strageties were solid and very applicable. For someone like me that had an athletic backgroud but no coaching experience, I found the information quite useful.

Need Motivation! look Here
The book, The Essential Lombardi is half a biography, and half quotes and speeches. The book was written by Vince Lombardi Jr. Vince Lombardi is a famous football coach, who coached the Green Bay Packers and led them to the first Super bowl. This book was a very good book, and I found it especially good, because in my eyes he is the best, ever! The book is very inspirational. Vince was all about pushing his players to go farther. Better than Average
Strengths:The book broadly covers most of the elements of defensive football strategy.Most defensive approaches that have been attempted successfully in the last 40 years are reviewed and explained.Football coaches, especially at the HS level where the athletes' practice time is limited, will appreciate the book's simplicity and its ability to convey the essence of a particular defensive approach.Do these philosophies work?They have, in various forms, for decades. Defenses of the 60s in a book that comes out in 2000??
Aww come on! This is the best the AFCA could do? Lets call it what it really is THE BEST OF THE AFCA MANUALS (DEFENSE). Dad gummit good leadership book!
I'm a Penn State grad and fan, but I enjoyed Bobby Bowden's leadership book.It's very easy to read and has lots of good advice.Also, I respect his religious beliefs and that he openly shares them throughout the book.This is a good leadership book!

Best Leadership Book I Have Ever Read
I have read Maxwell and a host of other leadership books, but there is a world of difference between a consultant or a middle-manager telling you about leadership...and the winningest coach in college football telling you about leadership! Bobby Bowden is a Legend..
On the football field Bobby Bowden is king! He is also a very inspirational and motivated person. This book is amazing, in ALL aspects.
