An exceptional book on the subject. It is comprehensive but I would not say not complete as no book on this subject could be. Still I believe this book to be the best work compiled in book form. Described by many as "the Bible" on the subject it indeed may be but it is not dogmatic as it offers several options and methods and leaves it for the aquarist to use.

Better applied for limit
This books stradegy should be used strictly for limit because the stradegies gordon uses will get you in trouble in no limit and save you chips in limit. If your looking to improve your game in no limit holdem, there is many books that will help you. Evan beginners should go a different route. Phil Gordon appears to be a nice human being and all and he writes good literature but thats all it is.

An Excellent Distillation.
Having generally gone through Phil Gordons' little book, I wholeheartedly recommend it as a necessary item for anyone's poker library.

John Wooden is a motivational icon for a reason.While basketball coach at UCLA, he won ten national championships in twelve years.What's more, he did it the "old-fashioned way," by focusing on establishing his team's character.
This book changed my life
I didn't know much about John Wooden and his 10 basketball championships.After reading this book, I realized why he won those championships.Wooden reflects on his experience as a coach and also what he learned from his dad.The thoughts presented in this book are timeless.I have read this book more than 10 times and still look forward to read it.Just reading Wooden's philosophy makes me feel better. It changed my outlook towards life.

Great Book for motivation but actually learned something
I bought a copy of Beyond Brawn from McRoberts and was hesitant to buy this book because of the writing style and extreme abbreviated routines promoted. This book recommends excercises I can accomplish and get results.
Logical Extension of T-A-P
I've read and enjoyed several of Lou's other books, I like his style of writing and find his work entertaining and informative.This book, to me, is the logical successor to his popular Testosterone Advantage plan.The diet advice and planing is similar but updated, and the exercise plans follow a similar periodization scheme.Fat loss circuit, Hypertrophy, and low reps for strength.While there is a break in routine, I would not recommend this book to some one who has not worked out regularly for at least six months. But for some one looking to move from beginner to intermediate, or an intermediate looking for a change of pace, this would be an outstanding resource.

Women please read as well!
I know this book doesn't really address women too much, but it is highly reccomended that we read it.If you are tired of reading books to gain muscle and strength that show the fitness models with 1 and 3lb weights, this is the book to get.

Best Baseball Book & Best Law Book I've Read In Years
Brad Snyder has done it again. Following on the heels of his much-acclaimed Beyond The Shadow of the Senators, Snyder returns to the pinnacle of his profession with A Well-Paid Slave, a gripping account of Curt Flood's fight for free agency in professional sports. In my opinion, Snyder's latest work is at once the best baseball book and the best law book that I've read in years. It is a gem that shows off Snyder's talents as a writer, researcher, and legal analyst.

Recommended Reading
John Wooden shares his great vision and framework for leadership and inspiration. The author proposes and provides the reader with a fantastic guide behind the skills and fundamentals of leadership. The author has been a very successful leader for over half a century. In describing his leadership beliefs and methods, he gives the reader a deeper understanding of values and their importance.From personal experiences, he establishes an easy to read book that I highly recommend.

Leadership Personified
To me, the words "Wooden" and "leadership" are synonymous. On and off various basketball courts, first as a player and then as a coach, John Wooden demonstrated talents, skills, and qualities of character seldom found in a single person. He led others by example but also by the force of his convictions. After reading this book, some may conclude that he was "idealistic,' "naive," "corny," "old-fashioned," etc. Not so. In fact, he was a strict disciplinarian with non-negotiablevalues who had zero-toleranceof attitude and behavior he perceived to be selfish, rude, unsportsmanlike, or indolent. He invariably accepted his team's defeat with grace but was saddened - sometimes so angered he exclaimed "Goodness gracious sakes!" -- by anything less than a best-effort, not only by his assistant coachesand players but also (especially) by himself. It should be added that, according to those who know him best (including coaches of opponents' teams), he has always been an exceptionally thoughtful, caring, and decent person.
Clearly an Icon, but Not a Cure-All!
John Wooden begins with brief remembrances of his life as a young farm boy (lots of hard work, and a great deal of competitiveness with his older brother), and absorbing key lessons from his father - "Focus on being the best you can become, and don't worry about whether your are better than some else.You have control over the one, the other you don't."This lesson would become part of Wooden's coaching foundation.

Fantastic !

Relief for an older, tired body - Thank YOU!!!
The exercises in Amazin's Total Strength Training for Women has allowed me to rejuvenate my body strength, tone weakened muscles in my arms and legs, and rebuild muscle loss due to my age (64). She has shown me that age is not really a factor when attempting to strengthen muscles - something I had resigned myself to upon reaching seniority. Her anatomical reproductions are excellent and they allowed me to target areas of my body that were weak or painful with equally excellent results. I look forward to her next book on Home Training. Her techniques have inspired me to set up a gym at home and continue to excercise. Thank you, Amazin ... there is an entire world of senior age women who can benefit from your book.

Men do it too
Thank you Amazin Lethi for this fantastic oeuvre. Despite being of the opposite gender from the focus of the book I found it wonderfully useful for my own workout.

disappointing for beginner
I had read all the rave reviews so was disappointed by my own experience.I am a new-comer to multisport competition.I found this book to be too much theory and not enough practicality; what was practical was presented in an incohesive way.I could see this being good for the serious triathlete, but for me, I found better use out of Eric Harr's book and on the internet.

Like reading a scientific paper
This book went above and beyond everything that I expected. The author gives references for virtually every point that he makes. He is clear about his standpoint when it comes to a lot of issues, such as POSE running, and explains his reasoning.
Good for someone wanting to progress
This is the only pure triathlon book I own, so I can't compare, but it answered 95% of the questions I had about how I go about improving from being a bunch finisher. The other 5%, well I suppose the author has to draw the line on detail somewhere. For example, the section on swimming skills is a 3-4 page summary of the total immersion swimming book.

Basics! Basics! Basics!
I found this book to have quite a different approach to teaching the beginner to ride.The author focus on balance and safety, and not moving the rider forward until a they are proficent in basic skills.
Fabulous!
A fabulous, practical book that addresses a common but "secret" problem of so many horse lovers...fear and anxiety.This is especially distressing to adult riders who used to be able to just jump on and GO!Gincy gives concrete and helpful exercises for us to do on and off the horse.She uses great visualization techniques like Sally Swift.It's great to have a book that addresses riding instead of ground training.Thank you Gincy!

Spectacular!
Actually, I am not a golfer.But I purchased this book as a Christmas present for my aunt and uncle who are recreational golfers. And spectacular is the word they both used to describe it.The photographs are beautiful and there is a short description of each place that is photographed.My aunt particularly liked that the descriptions were short.She said it was just enough information about each place.And now, maybe, they are planning to visit some of these places and play a round...

Can't Go Wrong
This book was recommended as a Father's Day gift in a magazine and being that my Dad LOVES golf, I thought it was a sure thing.It ended up being way more than that.The book is beautiful!Don't tell anyone but it is way underpriced.It looks like a $50 coffee table book.My mom thought I had paid $80 to $100 for it.My Dad loves it so much that he displayed it on top of tv in the living room. He was giddy to find many courses in the book that he had played.The only downside I could see was that my Dad may find numerous golf courses around the world that he now feels he has to go and play. ... Fantastic book
This is a perfect example of edutainment at its best.Terrfic fun while simultaneously teaching you a great deal about the key factors that determine a teams win rate.Aside from the style and the analysis this book also does something even more valuable: It highlights a management approach that is truly based on merit, as opposed to how "pretty" an athelete is or how much charisma they have.For people who believe that the USA is as close as any country to being a meritocracy - this book is a shining example of just that.I am truly astonished and dismayed by the negative reviews I have read.I can't wait for Lewis to write his next book.

Reveals More About Baseball
Money Ball was a great book. It shows that you don't need money to win in baseball(take that Yankees ;-P) Michael Lewis reavels that the team with the 2nd lowest payroll, the Oakland Athletics, can have so much dominance and success in a game where the best baseball players usually end up with the richest team. Lewis also tells the story of Billy Beane the GM of the Athletics. Billy's bad attitude and foul temper prevented him from making in the MLB. He exerts his attitude as a force over the so-called "experts" when a desicion must be made. Billy constanly goes against what the scouts think a drafts players that nobody has heard of. He shows that there are many aspects of the game that we don't know. All in all, this was an excellant book. My only complaint was that there was a lot of swearing.--- Jesse Hartman

If you are a fan, this is a great read.If you are not a fan, but just interested in the game, it is still a great read.What I find most amusing are the baseball "experts" who poo-poo Billy Bean's approach to fielding and running a baseball team."The proof of the pudding is in the eatin'" and the cognocenti appear to dislike the taste.The Oakland A's have been one of the stellar teams, yet, it appears that success is not what is important.What is important is success based on the recipe that the "experts" write. ... Excellent Source of Vehicle Dynamic Information
Milliken lays down the fundamentals and advanced topic of vehicle dynamics as applied to racecars.The text is not for beginning or nontechnical readers in the slightest manner.Milliken points out many subtle and difficult areas to understand, which take hours of studying to fully grasp.For those seriously considering a career in this field or to the extremely interested reader, this text is the source of information.

This isn't the perfect coffee-table-travel-reference book for golf in Scotland and Ireland, but then Tiger Woods isn't the perfect golfer either.If you've golfed in Scotland and Ireland, if you're planning to play in Scotland and Ireland, or if you're only dreaming of playing in Scotland and Ireland, this is absolutely one book that you must have.It's a steal at Amazon's $37.80.You may recognize some of the text, paraphrased a bit, from Finegan's 1996 "Blasted Heaths and Blessed Greens" [Scotland], and "Emerald Fairways and Foam-Flecked Seas" [Ireland], but this large format book is in no way a duplicate.What can I say?The golf course photography by Laurence Lambrecht is spectacular.Finegan's prose sparkles as ever.Any negatives?Sometimes, I think, Finegan goes a little over the top, maybe even a lot over the top.But who cares? ... Good fighting concepts book
This book is great in terms of coming up with ideas for techniques and defense strategies.Bruce Lee was studying and practicing with many martial artists from multiple fighting systems.I think this book is written pretty well, and the very important and practical information is elaborated on more extensively.

The joy is in the footnotes
As a religious reader of Simmons' stuff online, I was sketpical about buying this book. The extensive footnotes, however, which contain added jokes, exponential material and goofy asides made it more than worthwhile. The fun of this collection wasn't so much in reading the articles again, but in learning what the author thought about them as time passed.

No need to love baseball to love this book
I was actually reading one of the classics received by my sister and brother-in-law (both teachers) when this book arrived in the mail...needless to say, the classic sat and gathered dust while I tore through the whole book without stopping.If you a sports fan and/or pop culture fan, you will find this book extremely entertaining.Even if you don't know the finer points of baseball, or the gruesome details of the Red Sox's struggles before winning the big one, this book will still keep you riveted and laughing long after your first web search for some of the more obscure movie star and sports star references.No longer a hidden gem, Bill Simmons has made his mark and is becoming a household name, and has drawn in non-sports fans to join his die-hard New England followers.If you are already a big sports fan, then you probably don't need to read this review as you already have the book in your possession... ... Feeding the Monster Satisfies
In author and Vanity Fair editor, Seth Mnookin's, ode to the Boston Red Sox, Feeding the Monster: How Money, Smarts, and Nerve Took a Team to the Top, you will find much more than you bargained for! Mnookin begins with a brief biography of the Red Sox peppered with League history and unique player backgrounds in Part I: A Century of Boston Baseball. Here we learn more about Tom Yawkey than any newspaper ever revealed since Yawkey bought the Red Sox just before his 30th birthday in 1933, and we find out just exactly what lies behind "The Curse of the Bambino".
Good read
I burned through this book, as I do believe it's a great read for true Sox fans. To disagree with a few reviews: 1) I don't think you can get this sort of behind the scense glimpse at the management level info from reading the Globe/Herald. You can't believe 1/2 of what they print. 2) It doesn't focus on the clubhouse/players, as someone pointed out, but that's not the goal.
Best Sports Book - Could Not Put It Down!!
I just (last night) got back from Asia and thank God I had this book to read on all my plane rides.It was a GREAT book, and that comes from a Cardinal fan.This was as good if not the best sports book I have ever read.I would say that I am jealous of Seth, but I am not.While I would have loved to follow the team and the inner workings as he did, I could never have retold the story as he did.I could not put the book down.

Please stay out of the field...!!!
This book is a bigotry masqueraded behind the veil of a "scholarly work." Every rule of rigorous work has been violated in this piece of work building on the darkest but forever smallest side of "soccer." Wasting this great opportunity to reveal the multi-dimensional power of the game the author invests his bitterness against the sport page-after-page. A sweet revenge for "soccer" rejecting him in his early age? Well... my advise to the author... keep on running away from the ball sir... and please stay away from it!!! You are RUINING THE GAME!!!

Insightful
This is a very insightful book. I have been a big soccer fan all my life and went to hundreds of games when I still lived in Europe, but this book contains many facts I had never heard of. Some chapters are better and more fascinating than others and the link of soccer to globalization seems to be artificial at times. I found the thoughts on soccer in the U.S. (last chapter) especially interesting.
Perhaps the appeal of soccer is that, for the moment, it exists in the happy realm between intelligence and pure fandom

What brought soccer to the smart set? Well, one could simply argue that soccer's time had come. But while much of soccer-love may come from nostalgia, a bit of it feels like it is self-styled. It's fair to assume that a great many of the new wave of soccer fans came to the sport in their teens and 20s--the lack of satellite TV and the Internet making the international game difficult to follow until then. Great Jumping book for beginners
This book creates a great foundation to train yourself and your horse to excell in jumping no matter what your intentions may be. I personally would recomend this book for all ages and engligh riders even the one's with no intention on jumping.

A Great Book To Keep In Your Tack Room!
I have started to do some of these exercises with my Appaloosa gelding. He is ten, but has gone western the two years he has been trained and is very ignorant of english riding skills.

This book is written by one of the best guys ever in college basketball "Mike Krzyzewski" he has been the face of Duke basketball for many years.Throughout this book he talks about his life and how he became who he is.He talks about how he builds mentally strong kids and how he has trust in everything they do.If you play sports or coach a sport this book would be great for you.I play soccer personally and this book relates to what I am told every day by my coaches.You need to play as a team and if you do you will win.
