Timeless Insights about Teaching and Learning
Ron Gallimore and Swen Nater combine their incredible knowledge about teaching and basketball to deliver a new and insightful look at the teaching practice of John Wooden. The book is a wonderful balance of personal stories from Nater and insights about teaching and learning from Gallimore that demonstrate just how incredibly wise, intentional, and gifted The Coach was and is. This book demonstrates the hard work, preparation, courage, and commitment to continuous learning that defines quality teaching. A must read for every teacher and coach.

Swen Nater's book: You WILL learn!
Swen Nater knows John Wooden - that much is clear. Clear too, is what a great teacher John Wooden was and, continues to be. This is a book any teacher can learn from. Sure it is great for coaches, but when a teacher is looking for guidance on how to handle varying student potential within their class, is it better to treat everyone the same - or to treat each individual differently, according to their personality, talent, ability, commitment etc. as Wooden did? Swen does a great job of interjecting his own life's experience into the priniciples Wooden taught. And he uses those of "Alcindor", Wicks, Walton, Allen and others to make the stories fit the lesson. The Military and Police Sniper by Mike Lau
This is an outstanding book jammed with information for both the novice and master shooter alike. I constantly review sections though I read the book a few years ago.Subjects include what makes a rifle a precision weapon, ammunition, optics, position, the difference between military and police sniping, etc. It's definately a keeper.

If you are a person who has an interest in Military and Police sniping you must read this book. Together with the book written by Major John L. Plaster 'The Ultimate Sniper'this book offers a good insight in how things work and how things are done to function as a sniper. A lot of practical tips are added in this book. Touchdown!
My brother and I grew up collecting the minature helmets from all the NFL teams and I always watched games with my dad and brother (Go Redskins!) but I've never known much about the game. Now when I watch with my husband I ask a lot of questions, like why does the clock continue to run down even when nothing is happening?! Holly's book has answered so many questions and truly explained the game and its origins. I love all the little tidbits, like knowing about the great Super Bowl moments and legendary players. This book is easy to read and I'm giving it to all my girlfirends who refer to themselves as "football widows" since their guys disappear (mentally and physically) when the game is on.

A ton of info
I purchased this book as a gift for my husband but I find myself looking through it also. An amazing amount of information! The downside is the book's size - it takes up a lot of space on the coffee table.

A MUST FOR THE DISCERNING COLLEGIATE HISTORIAN
I have written three books on the history of USC football, and am working on a fourth: ranking the 25 greatest all-time traditions and best single-season teams ever. I found this work to be an important tool. Without it, I would have had to use the web or call a bunch of overworked SIDs and ask them to be my de facto reearch assistants. That's close!

great program with proven results
Lisa in CT has totally missed the boat on her review....If you do those exercises to COMPLETE momentary muscular failure (which will be outright hard work) you will pack on muscle as quickly as possible. There is no faster way to pack on muscle than brief, high-intensity workouts..I'm not talking about just doing 12 reps and then dropping the weight....you need to work to TOTAL failure and use a weight that will BARELY let you get between 8-12 reps. Then you will know the difference between grocery shopping and working out the Ellington Darden way (the right way).....The reason why some of the sections are brief is becasue that's all that is needed...it's not complicated....but you have to read it carefully and understand exactly what is being described when it comes to the intensity required....all-out effort....never had a grocery trip like that....
Not impressed. Very disappointing....
I purchased this book in hopes of getting the most out of my Bowflex Extreme 2. Other reviewers seemed to really like this book, so maybe I'm way off in my expectations. I've been working out for quite a while and recently purchased a Bowflex in hopes of saving time & money by working out at home instead of the gym. I'm not so sure about that decision now...

This is not a bowflex manual.This is a manual on how to change your body.All of the pictures and illustrations are with the Bowflex.But, the exercise plan can be performed on any home gym - the only requirement is that you can quickly switch between exercises.

Great supplemant for any martial artist!
What a great book! As a student of a traditional martial art, I have access to in depth information concerning kata, application of kata, the history of my art, the spiritual concepts important to my art, etc.What I do not always have access to is information about how to train, excercises and stretches that I can use to supplemant my training, and nutritional information that will facilitate my training.While this book does place a certain emphasis on training for tournaments and competition, it is excellent overall, and should be helpful to any martial artist.It is easy to read, and the authors interject humour and personal anctedotes throughout the writing.

Good basic book
OK, since my job involves researching obesity I may have erred on buying this book.It is very good, at laying out the basics of nutrition and training.A lot of the training tips should be coming from your teacher, but nobody knows everything and this can help fill in the gaps.As for the nutrition, it may have helped to provide a little more in the way of practical application, but overall it is solid and the underlying principles are well set.Using this book will likely help the majority of people who are serious about training in martial arts as athletes to achieve their goal. Think of it as a mens health guide to martial arts training

WISHY WASHY is all this book talks about.
This book is ok. Through out the whole book they talk about how their opinions are wishy-washy. They never give a clear answer and are very unsure about giving you a definite answer. They leave out important formulas about calories and many other things. Not a terrible book but not a good one either. Maybe very confusing for some and lacks any backbone or definite answers. Some of the stuff in this book has been proven bad or even good for you, but they say the opposite. There is no fight preparation diet plans or any true relevance to Fighting. Highly recommend....
I am grateful for this qigong training course. I have tried a couple of other videos for qigong practice but this IS THE course to have if you are to have one. I'm using the techniques in concert with the treatment I have received for rheumatoid arthritis and have been pleasantly suprised by the results. This has been noted by the accupuncturist as well. Treatments in the western medicine are expensive and I am happy to note that I have been having far better results with the practice of qigong complimenting my treatments.

Significant contribution to Qigong Education
Many of us cannot always get to places in California, the West Coast or the North Eastern US to meet and train with skilled Qigong Teachers. This kit addresses both personal graduated training and depth of style. Where it is most important is the ability to target the 100 days by a skilled weekly program where progress is obvious. Too many Qigong media detail exercises or procedures in books or video that show the "completed" forms and do not graduate these for new learners. Beginners like myself find this approach difficult to follow. Starting Qigong disciplines is like learning to ride a horse and has to be learned in stages. Ken Cohen has achieved this in a most inexpensive manner. Keep up the good work!.

Qigong has become a little fashionable of late, but the fact is that it is demonstrably effective for maintaining health, and there is a growing body of decent research indicating that it may also be a useful adjunctive treatment for an array of illnesses.

European view
From european point of view the drawback of the book is that it describes the tasks of american rules for obedience trial. As we in europe have different set of tasks in our obedience trial the book did not fill the need for specific instructions on those tasks. I was also looking for more structured and simplified clear instructions in the book things are more of discussed through. Still the book was worth the money paid for it. It has lots of grounds for why to do this way. The basics of the book is fluencies on what the obedience tasks are based on and those same fluencies are still usefull with european rules too.

Great book to keep your workout goal oriented and interesting
This book is great!I have always had a problem falling into a workout rut, and this book has designed a fun golf workout that changes every two weeks. I would recommend this book or any book in this series to someone who is training for a specific sport.The book is simple to read and you can download blank workout sheets from their website so you can track your progress.The book also has pictures explaining each exercise that is well organized by muscle group.Golf season has not started yet but I am looking forward to getting out there and crushing some great shots.

New Edition is Way Better
I'm a multi sport athlete who trains all year round regardless of what sport I play. I bought a few of these Ultimate Guide to Weight Training books, and they definitely helped me train specifically for the different sports that I play. Then about a year later I received an email from amazon that there was a new edition out.These upgraded editions are even better than the originals, with more articles and a lot more sport-specific information. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who plays a lot of sports or wants to specifically focus on training for one sport in particular.

Only A Good Book for the Absolute Beginner--not a reference
While I am usually quite pleased with the "for dummies" type of books because they are truly a "reference for the rest of us," this one does not deliver on the latter promise. While it is fun to readand easy to understand, I learned nothing from reading this and I am only a casual fisherman at best, going on what my dad taught me over 25 years ago when I was just a boy. I think if you had no idea what you were doing at all this might be a good "get started" book, but if you know what a rod and reel are and how they work, how hooks and lines are gauged and how to hook your bait, I don't think this book will teach you very much. It also introduces a lot of new things to the beginner (such as telling you what the basic types of lures are), but tells you nothing in terms of tips for catching fish any better with these items.

This book will teach you the basics and answer some questions that you might have had about fishing. This is a good reference book that goes into enough detail to get anyone started fishing.

Sports Illustrated:The Football Book
We purchased this book as a gift for a friend who coached high school football for over 30 years.He is also a major NFL fan.He was so touched by the gift and content that he had the paper cover laminated to preserve it.He poured through the book and still goes through it.He is quite proud of it, and we are so elated to have given a gift that the recipient truly loves.Not only is the content awesome with the pictures and information, it is a great coffee table decor for football lovers.

Yes, A Useful Walking Technique
While ChiRunning was the first running technique book I'd ever read, ChiWalking is definitely the first walking book I've ever set eyes on. With something that we do almost unconsciously, it's kind of silly to think that we'd need an instructional on how to put one foot in front of the other, right?

A Must for Leadership
This is perhaps one of the most important books I have read as a coach.It was very concise and offered excellent suggestions.It was written to I could relate and the players will be able to relate.I am going to implement this book as a preseason tool to better develop leaders and team chemistry. This book will be very thought provoking and bring alot of things out that normally wouldnt have been thought of. My leadership guideline!

Funny, entertaining, a great read!
As a big Paulson fan this book was a great read. Gary provides an insight into the iditarod that only Gary can do. You will feel the cold, share his pain and truley feel you are running the race with him. Gary's love of his dogs and nature come through in this book. Anyone who wants an entertraining lesson on the iditarod, must read this book.

Laughing all the way
My husband read this book first. He constantly interrupted whatever I was doing to read it aloud because he was enjoying it so much. Finally, so that he would leave me alone, I agreed to read a chapter.All I can say is that a book has never made me laugh out loud like this one did.We both laughed until tears were running down our cheeks! I am so glad that my husband has never had any inclination to run the Iditarod like Paulsen did. I'm sure that if he had, the results would have been as hilarious as Paulsen's experiences.It's funny enough just to see my husband pack up to go duck hunting with our two Labs.As he drives off with the dogs disagreeing about who will get to sit up front, I am always reminded of the Three Stooges, but instead of Larry, Curly, and Moe, it's Stan, Daisy, and Buddy.

Great for Disney fans who want to know more
This book was great!It explains the reasoning behind why and how all the current attractions were constructed.I would have liked to see a little more on the past and the potential for future attractions, but it was good.It is really interesting to see why this ride was built just like it was and how the idea formed into what it is.

The Mouse is Best.
A great behind the scenes look at the Best Place on Earth.For those who want to pick the brains of the Imagineers to hear their versions of what we see at the Magic Kingdom. I really appreciated this book.

Great book for the Intermediate rider working at home.
This book is great for riders who can easily walk trot and lope/canter and depart on a correct lead.
In an enlightened age, Cherry is still old school
Cherry Hill has come up with some neat little exercise books to offer you training ideas. But she has some outdated ideas on horse training. Compare the advice you get in her book "The Formative Years" with some of the more enlightened trainers published in the last 20 years.

A valuable addition to your equestrian library.
The number of excellent reviews for this book reflect the application to riders of all levels and disciplines. Great book for a new dad or husband
I am not a very avid reader normally, but I bought Mike Greenberg's
Fun, but not funy
After years of listening to Greenberg and following his career both in Chicago and nationaly, I was a little disappointedthat I wasn't more inpressed with what he had to say.His amusing neurotic nature is one of everyman, and the book does have some amusing moments.Mike is a bumbler, as all middle-aged men eventually become, and his mishaps are no more newsworhty than anybody else's.
