4-0 out of 5 stars Race Engineers bible
I think i've bought this book a bit too early in my learning curve!
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Source of Vehicle Dynamic Information
Milliken lays down the fundamentals and advanced topic of vehicle dynamics as applied to racecars. The text is not for beginning or nontechnical readers in the slightest manner.Milliken points out many subtle and difficult areas to understand, which take hours of studying to fully grasp. For those seriously considering a career in this field or to the extremely interested reader, this text is the source of information.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good reference work
A very informative book on the engineering fundementals, it would be good if a second edition with more mordern race vehicles was in the works. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Few as good as this one
"Going Faster" is surely one of the best books ever written about the fundamentals of driving. While focusing on handling a car at speed on a track, each of these lessons applies to general handling in all situations.Situational awareness, looking ahead, picking the best line through a corner, understanding the car's grip and why smooth inputs matter so much.Everything is here.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excelente Libro

5-0 out of 5 stars an exceptional book.a must read for any serious driver.
This book is amongst the best I have ever read in terms of driving. It covers a tremendous amount of detail. This is a most read, is it not only from one of the top racing schools in the country, is allot cheaper. The information in this book is like having ten other books put together.Although this book covers almost everything it is not the only one to read. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I Built One!
Great book, made the process straightforward and understandable. If you simply follow the steps in the book you will end up with a really good little sports car. If you also incorporate some information from Caroll Smith and Allen Staninforth's books you will have a car that will beat the pants off a Caterham.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is the beginning
I know how to weld, cut metal design and tune suspensions from scratch adapt junk to something useful the list of things I can do seems endless sometimes. Before I got this book I could do none of these things THIS is the book that gave me the bug which bit me and inspired me to learn to do all these things and to search for knowledge online in books etc. It all began with this book. This book has forced me to take back all my sarcastic cynical remarks about actually building your own car when my wife bought this book for me. It is not a perfect book If it was I wouldnt have learned half of what I do now about suspensions etc since ford cortinas are not sold here But that is part of this books charm its hook is in getting you off your back side and into the pursuit of your own personal sports car. Its been a fantastic ride and I hope you buy a copy too

5-0 out of 5 stars We all can be car builders!!!
I usually read this kind of books from cover to cover, and I did't thought it was going to be that exiting!

5-0 out of 5 stars More Proficient Motorcycling
This is different enough to Proficient Motorcycling to be worth buying. I like the overall emphasis on avoiding trouble rather than getting out of trouble. There is more emphasis on throttle control which I found helpful. I expect I'll be reading this for the next few years as I continue learning to ride and start venturing out onto the serious twisties. As with the first book, being based on magazine columns ther eis a bit of repetition and some overlap with the first but I enjoy reading it and find it very useful.

3-0 out of 5 stars General Info.
This book was also an interesting read.I was hoping for more technical information.Still, is good for new bikers and a good reminder for old ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars great read, clear explanations

5-0 out of 5 stars The Michael Jordan of Motorcycle Racing....except.
This kid is a moto god!He still has fun and unlike all the pro sports stars I know has no agnet or lawyer.Cares nothing for money.....who would at 29 million a year.He is funny, and focused, crazy and driven. At 50 he'll still be a kid which I think is what we all want too. This book makes you want to ask yourself the question "What if I never tried?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Straight into the mind and heart of the Valentino Rossi we know and love
This book brings us straight back to his days as a child, a teenager, and a motorcycle racer.. A great read into what goes on in his mind, although some of his life's choices that were mentioned seems a bit too forceful or unreal; perhaps a bit fake.. but again, he is a world champion and world champions have a record of knowing what they want to do from a young age.

4-0 out of 5 stars How To vs. Can Do
My purpose for ordering this book was to gain the knowledge of how to do this type of work. While the "how to" is limited, the advantage to me is to learn what can be done and this book covers this well.Overall, I am pleased that I ordered it.
4-0 out of 5 stars fournier rules
This book paid for itself at page 3 and has continued to do so ever since. Why no 5 star rating well its because I cant afford some of the equipment and he provides no poor mans alternative.

3-0 out of 5 stars good but old
This book was written in the early eighties, and it shows. There is some valuable information, but it is aimed at the sheet metal shaping world- for instance, how to put compound curves into metal.

5-0 out of 5 stars SHH, Here Lies the Librarian
It's 1914 in Hendricks County, Indiana, and Jake and PeeWee McGrath run a garage for those newfangled automobiles. PeeWee, aka Eleanor, doesn't plan to go to high school. She will stay with her older brother and help run the garage, only her brother is a better mechanic. Then four sorority sisters from Butler University in Indianapolis arrive and plan to reopen the town library. Excitement abounds with a rival garage attempting to destroy the McGrath's business and an automobile race that makes NASCAR look like a Sunday drive. If you enjoyed Peck's The Teacher's Funeral, you will love this one. The relationship between Jake and Eleanor is strong and loving. This is a nostalgic and humorous look at the early 20th century.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay read
I looked for this book specifically for a library science assignment, and was excited about reading it.I really wanted to enjoy and like it!However, once I got into it, I found it disjointed with no visible plot. The setting, the early 1900's, is one I'm not sure children will understand. The language often seemed contrived and difficult, with a lot of dialect, and I often had to go back and re-read sections in order to understand what had happened.I wonder if the age group it is intended for will take the time to go back, or put it down for a more comfortable read.Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this book to my students.Even though there were a few humorous moments, they were few and far between. As my students are fond of saying, "I just don't get it!"

4-0 out of 5 stars Wherein chauffeurs collect library fines
Do you ever get the impression that an author is trying just a little too hard to get the attention of their librarian readers?I don't think this happens much in the world of adult literature, but when it comes to kiddie lit, writers sometimes verge on the shameless. Now I was willing to look past Kimberly Willis Holt's paean to the glory of librarians everywhere in "Part of Me", and the non-fiction true tale of librarian heroism, "Dear Miss Breed" by Joanne Oppenheim could certainly slip by on my watch. But recently I've been doubling back and rereading some of the children's books that came out in early 2006.Of those books, one that I missed early on in the game was Richard Peck's, "Here Lies the Librarian", courtesy of Dial Books.Mr. Peck has written a wham-bam, rock `em, sock `em tale of hard core drag racing librarianship.Though still better (as anyone who reads his books regularly will tell you) than 92% of the schlock printed yearly, Peck's latest venture carries with it the faintest odor of familiarity.Basically, if you perused and enjoyed his previous book, "The Teacher's Funeral", then there's probably little reason to go on to this title as well unless you like to regularly douse yourself in Peck's pleasant wordplay.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes drivers more human
For Nascar fans like me Poole takes us behind the scenes and gives us some idea of what the drivers are like. Beware that the stories arent all comical or anything like that. But if you're into racing, it provides a depth that humanizes the drivers, warts included.
4-0 out of 5 stars Too funny!
A fun read for all NASCAR fans!We definitely recommend it for non-serious reading!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Cover art & title are a little misleading
This is a pretty good book, but not if you're expecting stories from the current era of NASCAR stars, for example, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.Most of the stories relate to the older stars, and that's fine, but considering the cover art and the lead in for the title, I expected a little more of the "new" and a lilttle less of the "old" stories. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars For vocational school students
Using many diagrams and a utilitarian style, this book aims to train future mechanics. No chances are taken ("inverted" is defined) and no fact is too obvious (dipsticks are explained). The authors struggle with the science: the two contradictory conventions for depicting current flow are explained as an ongoing scientific controversy; engine oils are "distillated".

I found Adventure Motorcycling Handbook to be an excellent guide in helping me plan my upcoming world tour.Beyond the dos and don't of where to go, the "Equipment Checklist" and the pages with profiles of the Riders/Equipment/Adventures offered it oodles of information to help determine many of the factors required to take a safe and fun trip.I would recommend this book to anyone planning for such an adventure. It is also enjoyable for those who are in any way, shape or form passionate about world travel and motorcycling.Nice job Chris Scott! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
The information in this book is just as relavant now as it was when it was written back in 1972.Physics is physics, after all.The book gave me a much clearer understanding of header theory. My only complaint is that Smith and Morrison obviously wrote this book for engineers, and I'm not one.I had to struggle to understand some of the concepts, particularly on tri-y header design; but in the end, it was definitely worth it.The exhaust concepts are equally applicable to carbs and fuel injection. The only things lacking were crossovers and merge collectors, but I guess those things weren't invented in 1972.This book will give you a basic grounding in header design theory, and will enable you to discern a set of well-designed headers from a useless tangle of pipes. If you plan on building a set of custom headers, this book is definitely required reading.

1-0 out of 5 stars In desperate need of updating!
Very outdated.I regret not having read the reviews here prior to purchasing this book. The last time this book was updated was 1972!There is nothing in the way of forced induction. Turbochargers are not mentioned and there is a single reference to superchargers on page 17!"Fuel Injector" is mentioned once.I am definitely sending this one back. Not the first time I have been disappointed with Bentley Publishing.FYI, 1972 was the year Pong came out.As I said, the book desperately needs to be updated.

5-0 out of 5 stars highly recommended if you...
I have designed race cars for years and I definitely recommend this book.I found information in this book that I have not seen published anywhere else.It explains how tri-y headers work.It explains the theory behindpulse tuning of exhaust and intakes. The intake pulse tuning is the basisof why Porsche created intake manifolds that effectively change betweenseveral intake runner lengths. These theories are even backed up by proventest results performed by engineers. There are even simple equations thatare directly applicable to designing an intake or exhaust. This book is"old" but then so is the 4-stroke engine and although today'sengines may seem "new" they are fundamentally the same as the"old" ones which makes the material in this book very worthwhile. If you want to know more than what intake or exhaust you should *buy* andare possibly thinking about creating your own intake or exhaust system, definitely buy this book.If you are looking for a book like this but evenmore technical, I suggest the 2 volumes titled "The InternalCombustion Engine in Theory and Practice" by Charles Fayette Taylor. ...
