5-0 out of 5 stars The title says it all...
I read this book every day and love it!Kevin Nelson gives practical, fun and whimsical advice to people who love (or want to love) to run.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Runner's Book of Daily Inspiration
This book was given to me as a gift.Being a "novice runner" of two years, I found this book to be very motivational. It is very intuitive on the thoughts of runners and some of the obstacles runners may encounter and how to get beyond those barriers.I have thought it such an excellent book that I am suprised it is not readily stocked and available for 24 hour shipping, especially during the holiday season. You know us last minute shoppers. Great gift idea for the novice or avid runner in your life if you can find a copy of it in time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book to Push you Through it All
The Runner's Book of Daily Inspiration:A Year of Motivation, Revelation, and Instruction is most likely the best investment I have ever made.Last year, I made a resoltion to myself to get in shape, eat healthy, andbasically be a fit person inside and out. This is not a very easyresolution to fulfill, as I soon found out.It was my plan to run at least3 times a week, and supplement it with another form of aerobic exercise. Very quickly, I lost my motivation, and was not living up to myexpectations.I came upon this book soon afterwards, and tried to regainmy motivation. After restarting my exercise program along with readingthis book, I am now running every day of the week, rain or shine, hot orcold, I run through it all, all due this very book.If you buy one book inyour life, buy Catcher in the Rye.But if you buy two, buy this one too! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book on basic drills
This is a good book on the basic and advanced drills for girls learning softball. Highly suggest it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for all levels of coaching
I have assistant coached my daughters' ASA teams for the past six years, and now I'm an assistant coach of my oldest daughter's jr. high team. I've pretty much learned along the way, picking up ideas and drills from the excellent coaches around me. But I just recently picked this book up and am excited about what I see. It's basic enough for the have-no-clue-but-want-to-learn coach, but there are so many drills here that even experienced coaches will pick up some new ideas. I especially like how the coach is fundamentally sound--the advice can therefore be trusted. I am going to be keeping this book nearby over these next seasons, and perhaps some of these drills will help the girls I coach to be even that much better. I am highly recommending this book for all of us who hope to gain just an inch of an advantage over those who rely merely on gut instinct.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great For The Novice; Even Better For The More Experienced
"Softball Skills & Drills" by Judi Garman is a valuable book for any softball coach or player. I have to admit that I am an inexperienced softball player, who has recently joined a league for recreation. Because I had little knowledge of the game, I bought this book because it is advertised on the cover as "The best book on the basics of the game." In retrospect I think that claim may be a bit of an overstatement because the book does assume a general working knowledge of the mechanics and rules of the game of softball. While these fundamentals are explained in pieces throughout the book, I would have really enjoyed a more thorough overview before Garman raced into chapter one, "Catching." Don't get me wrong: this is a great book, but absolute beginners may also need an even more basic text.

3-0 out of 5 stars where's the beef
I've been running for 35 years and coaching for many so I expected to pick up a book that would give some insight into a young runner's mind or some biomechanical needs of a young runner. The book is a cursory view of coaching and training. It's fine if you are just starting out with no background. But where's the meat and potatoes?

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful and informative, a good reference manual.
I am a Cross Country Coach for Lakeshore Middle School in Stevensville, MIand am building a program.I found the "Training for Young DistanceRunners" book to be very helpful.I have found the section onPsychology right on target.I have a son that runs High School CrossCountry who runs year around and after a successful summer road racingseason started the Cross Country Season doing very poorly.Using thePsychology section helped me get him back on track. The Nutrition sectionhas also been helpful for some of my runners.I give the book a two thumbsup.4-0 out of 5 stars good guide
I liked how this booked emphasized how important mental training should be integrated into a good, solid training prog. The scientific aspect is easy to understand though not nearly as thorough or complex as Martin and Coe's book. The training is very conservative, but the strength training advice was very helpful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Baseball Tale
John H. Ritter returns with another great baseball fable, this time adding the elements of jazz music and a little more romance. Just as in THE BOY WHO SAVED BASEBALL, there is still a bit of possible magic and some very quirky and entertaining characters, including a protagonist on a mission, Andy Ramos.According to Andy's heartthrob, Glory Martinez, when the moon looms large during a daytime baseball game, it is what fans call "a baseball moon."
5-0 out of 5 stars An instant baseball classic
The finest contemporary author of baseball books for teens has written not just another baseball - or, in this case, softball - book; rather, a multilayered and thoroughly engrossing love story starring two 15-year-olds determined that this will be their "breakout summer."
5-0 out of 5 stars Another Hit
Thank you John Ritter again, for another great book.I highly recommend "Under the Baseball Moon." to everyone, whether they are a musician, softball player, lawyer, mom, dad, student...and everyone else too, mainly because it is just plain fun to read a good book.

5-0 out of 5 stars week 6 and doing great
I bought this book after returning from a long trip hiking abroad. I was in love with my new muscular legs and wanted to keep it up.I decided I was finally gonna learn how to run, I have always wanted to but didn't know how to start.I tried many times before and had injured myself within the first week.I am also young and relatively athletic.I saw this book and decided to give it a try.I will say that I had to start over once at week two or so because I had gotten off schedule and it was I wasn't keeping up with it well.I started over and that was 6 weeks ago.I don't know if I have lost any weight but I will tell you my endurance has sky-rocketed.I can run easily for 8 minutes when before I couldn't last more than 1-2 without panting to death. This book is so great because it plans it all out for you.The sessions aren't that strenuous and honestly if I am really stressed out I go out and run and I come back all relaxed, it is my therapy.I felt the beginning chapters of the book are a bit much, but may be necessary for someone who hasn't been physically active in a while.I just keep the 13-week program page bookmarked and see what I have to do each day.It is a really great book if you want to learn how to run and build up your endurance all by yourself.

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware - Completely Revised Program
A lot of the reviews here apply to a different edition of this book that prescribes a significantly different program.
5-0 out of 5 stars I thought I was a hopless case!
If you are even thinking about starting a running program you must start with this book. When I bought this book in April of 2006 I was hoplessly out of shape, and I couldn't run more than 20 seconds at a time.Last Saturday I ran my first 5k, and though I wasn't all that fast, I ran the entire distance and I felt great afterward. The beauty of this book for me is that it allowed me to set goals, build strength, and run without injuring myself. The key is to be patient, get some good shoes, and follow the program.I have another 5k in two weeks, and I'm signed up for a 10k at the end of September. If you're really serious about taking up running this book is a great investment. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Another Winner!
Another brilliantly woven masterpiece that tells a story of persistence, teamwork, and spirit.Mr. Silverman and Mr. Harrison take us on a journey through a truly inspiring tale about the only black college lacrosse team to compete in the NCAA.Based on a true story, this piece of sports history is a MUST read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book, Great Story
Ten Bears is a really good book telling a great story.Due to the time difference between its writing and the actual events, there are some artistic licenses taken by the author, but I would argue that it adds to the books character.Mr. Silverman and Mr. Harrison have wound the events of the early seventies in Maryland with the creation of college lacrosse team.I appreciated the reality of the individual character's stories and the resisting by the author's to glamorize their antics. Yes, the team skipped practices and was not always honorable about going to school however, against the backdrop of the social times, their accomplishments are unbelievable. If you are a lacrosse fan, this is a must read.If you enjoy stories about real people, this is a good book telling a great story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Running and Remember the Titans . . . Move Over!
Fascinating piece of social and sports history. The authors combine humor and heart to create a great story about the only black college lacrosse team to ever compete in NCAA.This would make a GREAT movie! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Big Ben!!
Big Ben: 27-4 as a starter (2004-2005 seasons)---only losses (3 of which were injury-related): Patriots, 2004 AFC Championship game (if Plax holds on to sure TD pass, we are only down 7 with about 7+ minutes to go in that game; Ben did some good things and was battling thumb and toe injuries) and also in 2005 (if Randle El doesn't get `cute' and lateral that pass to Ward, we probably win; again, Ben did some good things), as well as the Bengals in 2005 (Ben has beaten Carson Palmer's Bengals 3 times: twice in 2004 and big-time in the AFC Wild-Card game in 2005; Ben had 3 TD passes in this lone defeat and was battling a thumb injury) and Indy in 2005 (as we know, he got revenge in the AFC Divisional Playoff game; Ben threw a TD pass to Ward in this Monday night defeat and was coming off an injury-induced layoff).

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend For any Sports Fan!!
Breaks running down into 7 time periods from I. Running by Pre-and Early Humans (5,000,000-200,000 BC) all the way to VII The Modern Superstars (1950-2000). Covers the history of running spicing in some great biographies within the stories. Learn about the famous 20th century stars like Carl Lewis, Emil Zatopek and Haile Gebresilasie as well as obscure 19th century runners like George Seward, Harry Hutchens and Amy Howard.5-0 out of 5 stars An Inspiring and Exciting History of Running
Running Through the Ages is the most absorbing historical account of running and runners I have read. Its scope is wider than anything previously attempted, ranging from prehistory to the end of the twentieth century, and taking in professional running for men and women as well as the more familiar amateur era that dominated the last century. It is supported by hundreds of rare illustrations, most of which will be new, even to historians of the sport. There is a six-page bibliography and a comprehensive index. Edward Sears is a runner himself, and he wrotes with insight and enthusiasm as well as the skill of a storyteller. His section on George Seward, "The American Wonder", is a revelation. There are superb assessments of athletes as varied as Deerfoot, Arthur Duffey, Paavo Nurmi, Helen Stephens, Jesse Owens, Wilma Rudolph, Bill Rodgers, Buddy Edelen and Haile Gerbrselassie, for this author has the deep knowledge of the sport to give credit to great and lesser names. All the great races are vividly described and the dramas of the Olympic arena expertly chronicled. This is a fine, inspiring and articulate book. I don't merely recommend it to anyone interested in the sport; I urge you to read it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book but not quite a Jeff Galloway
I think this is a very nice book but perhaps not as "entertainingly" written as the Jeff Galloway running books ("Marathon-You Can Do It" and "Half-Marathon-You Can Do It") that I've also read. The author even quotes Galloway in a couple of places.

This is a good option if you are plannig to run your firs marathon.I follow it on my trainnig for New York marathon wich I spent 4 hours 6 minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous book for marathoners!
This was the only book i had for my first marathon. i read it at least 20 times. i found her down to earth attitude refreashing. hey, anyone who encourages you to eat pizza is fabulous. the most helpful part for me was the lengthy sections on h ow to prepare for the marathon, a week before, a day before, day of, etc. not only was it my frist marathon, it was my first race (not smart).I felt very prepared and have recommended this book to many many people. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars TheDying Art ?
What strikes readers of Brearley's treatise on captaining a cricket side is its relevance so long after it was written. Though it deals with a dying era of wildly eccentric English cricketers the likes of which we will never see again (Close, Dexter, Underwood, Cowdrey et.al) and the golden era of county cricket that professional sport finally replaced, his thought's on the game still hold as true as the day he penned them. Captaincy is still all of the things Brearley discusses and very little he doesn't. Even his predictions seem to be by a man who had seen the future. His discussion of the new trend of 'sledging,' the over aggressive nature of the modern players and his distaste for themseem more than justified today.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent insight into cricket captaincy
I don't have much to compare against (as it is the only cricket-related book I've read), but it makes an excellent read.
