4-0 out of 5 stars Fine Guide for Becoming a Player
Nick Saviano was a world-class player, top adminstrator and coach with USTA, and now consulting on his own (after the book was published). His views in this book are the templates for developing players for USA Tennis High Performance; i.e., the American system for player development. But it is a system, not an academy. And this is a book, not a personal coach. Still, it gives a wonderful template how to create a developmental program, set goals, develop style of play, customize personal tactics, prioritize training, plan a training and tournament schedule, etc. It allows players (juniors and adults) to organize and take charge of their tennis life. It is a good book for players trying to put pieces together: strokes, tactics, training, etc into a personal package. It puts together your passion for tennis, your personality, and talents into what you probably should do on the court. It may be the best book in the subfield and is a fine resource for parents and juniors (older than 12 years old) and college players. It is also an excellent resource for the serious player (development, juniors, tennis training/planning, understanding your self and game) who would like to improve his or her tennis using a long-term plan. It is obviously a great resource for coaches, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tennis Players Guide to Fun with Success
I am a member of the USTA, played countless tournaments and have read many books and magizine articles during my 30 years of playing the game.4-0 out of 5 stars A very experienced coach gives mental recommendations
Nick Saviano is an excellent coach with great credentials. Saviano attempts to improve the reader's mental outlook of tennis by focusing on 10 key subjects. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dupree a Phenomenon
This is a must read-especially for the young athletes of today. This man was a legend!Hands down the best running back in the country during his era!
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent story line
I recently read "The Courting of Marcus Dupree" and found it to be exciting and spell binding. My entire family was caught up in it.The book is an excellent tale of the birth of a young Black male in a troubling time for the South. The way Willie Morris related Marcus' birth and powerful strength to the struggle of his town and state was awesome, he should be the Mayor of Philadelphia or the Governor of Mississippi.I expected the book to be totally about football but it proved to be much more.It made you laugh and cry at times because of the tremendous pressure on Marcus Dupree, the 17 year old athlete that was blessed with such miraculous skills. The book made you feel like you were at the games when he made some of the beautiful plays. It was so intense that you wanted to get to the next page, but never wanted the book to end.I wish it was reprinted.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Tale of Football and the South
I read this book again recently and it was better than I remembered. It was so interesting to see how one 17 year old boy could dominate one small town's conversations. I expected this book to be a tale of a high school football star and his recruitment, but I got more, much more. Willie Morris examines the importance of football in Mississippi and how Marcus brought blacks and whites together with his play. He had insight in to Marcus that nobody outside of his family and high school coach could have had. Overall, a great read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars TeniPuri review
Ok, I honestly love Prince of Tennis. It's my favorite anime of all time, so I'll try to stay neutral in this review :D
3-0 out of 5 stars This might be a bit too in-depth. XD
I'm actually the biggest TeniPuri fan in my circle of friends, so it saddens me to have to give a "ehh" rating to such a vital part of the overall series. D:
5-0 out of 5 stars You Truely Are The Prince Of Tennis!!
I just finished reading this book today and found it to be wonderful. Apart from some of the more terrible swearing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tennis as a tool for a balanced state of mind
Zen is a state of mind and playing tennis, if well played, brings us to another state of mind. A winning way of life is really a good title for this book. I was surprised to see how much the etiquette spoke in this book can apply to any area of our lives. Presented in humurous, entertaining and original way, this book expose all the different aspects around and on the tennis court.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll need to take lessons to fully benefit from this book
I've played tennis for fun when I was young and for the past three years I've been playing once a week. But I never took lessons.I know, that was stupid of me but like I said, it was more for exercise and fun.So I bought this book almost over a year ago.The book is excellent, but if you've never taken lessonsyou won't understand it.I see in the photos how the racket should be held but couldn't figure out how to actually make contact with the ball that way.All these 90 degree angles sent my balls flying out of the courts.
3-0 out of 5 stars A tennis player beginner read this book
I bought this book and it gave me a good help to improve my shots, specially my serve. I found an in-depth analysis for this shot. It's focused only in shots. I was expecting some chapter about the mental side. Also, nothing about strategy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The only tennis book you need
This is by far the best instructional tennis book I ever read, and believe me, as a tennis nut who breathes tennis, I've read almost all of them.It is only 123 pages, but this is true testimony that good, quality books need not be long.I've read some tennis books that are huge manuals with pages of worthless frame-by-frame pictures. The beauty of this book is it's simple.I think everyone will appreciate that. And it need not lots of pictures to tell you how to truly play the game.I am an intermediate tennis player and I find the information to be very helpful and it is so simple, beginners will really learn from it, too.If you are a beginner, don't waste your money on tennis lessons, videos, or other books. You ONLY need this book.If you are an avid tennis fan, get this book and a subscription to Tennis Magazine to keep up with the news.Tennis is soooo simple after you read this book, don't let anyone tell you otherwise! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars For tennis freaks
This book is huge and is not to read for enjoyment. It is a book filled with stats, rules, and tons of information on tennis. Why would a normal person want to know all of this? He won't. Who would want to buy this? A tennis freak. What exactly is a tennis freak? He would be someone that plays tennis almost everyday if not every weekend at the very least. Someone who would play rain, snow, sleet, or shine. Someone who would tape all the best matches on TV and then analyze them frame-by-frame later. Someone whose conversation goes something like this: "Remember the lob Edberg threw over Becker on the last set, eigth game at the 1990 Wimbledon? My God, that was the turning point of the entire match!"

5-0 out of 5 stars A real tribute to the game of tennis
I have no doubt in considering Bud as the top tennis writer in the world. His passion and imense knowledge for the game of tennis is well ilustrated in this masterpiece. Any fan of tennis will take pride in owning a copy ofthis encyclopedia which provides the most complete information abouttennis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read!
I enjoy Bud, despite his preference for Becker over Edberg, but all in all, a very good tennis reference. I have something called The World Encylopaedia of Tennis, but this is more comprehensive and more current. Amust for anyone interested in the history of tennis. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Illustrations!!!
This book has the best illustrations regarding the strategics of the sport I have seen in any racquetball book, new or old...I highly recommend it for the illustrations alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of physical demonstrations
The actual concept of the strategic goals of this sport is well examplified by excellent pictorial views with sub-title explanations.I recommend this book to anyone desiring a basic and full understanding of the fundamentals of racquetballs strategic concepts, and how to dominate the game strategically, easily demonstrated via the illustrations in this book...Excellently done, even though this book is a bit oudated via today's racquets and a few rules have changed, the fundamentals, and understanding the dominance of controlling the center of the court has not changed.

4-0 out of 5 stars SOMETIMES DIFFICULT, SCIENTIFIC TENNIS BY WORLD-CLASS COACH
Very comprehensive book by a top world-class coach. At times, however, it appears the author attempted to do too much. For example, the title concerns advanced competitive tennis but also includes simple beginnerchildren drills (should they be here?). Another example is trying to coverthe anaerobic latic, anaerobic alactic and aerobic energy systems on onepage.Perhaps it needs elaboration or not mentioning at all. The focus ofthe book should be on technique since that is the title. The nutritionalsection is quite weak considering other resources are available.Nutritional tips and facts are also scattered throughout the latter half inhighlighted boxes which doesn't make sense since it appears disorganized. The best portions are the biomechanics -- stroking, movement, etc --, thegeneral training principles, and drills. Schnborn has some excellentinsights into the biomechanical techniques at the highest level and appliesnot only scientific knowledge but common sense. He challenges manytraditional points of teaching with strong justification. The translationinto English from German appears to be a bit crude. The text reads morelike a paper a scientific sports journal (e.g., Medicine and Science inSports and Exercise or The Journal of Teaching in Physical Activity). Thereare some very nice diagrams and graphics and some not very nice ones. Itreminds me of a more graphical, physically appealing version of TennisTraining (Castellani, D'Aprile, & Tamorri, only in Italian but the mostcomprehensive tennis science book ever written). Not as readable as theScience of Coaching Tennis (Groppel, Loehr, et al) or High Tech Tennis(Groppel) but more comprehensive. A nice resource for the serious player. Not recommended for beginners or someone not interested in science. A mustfor any serious coach. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Scaz Doesn't Fulfill The Promise of The Book
When Bill Scanlon played on the professional circuit, he was a solid player. The only time you'd hear him mentioned in the same breath as McEnroe is on his book. The obvious animus he has for McEnroe is really uncalled for. It seems to be merely there to sell the book. Plus, the book is filled with factual inaccuracies--it was Vitas who said, "Nobody beat Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row." It was Barazutti's mark that Connors erased in the Open semifinals, not Vilas'. He has Connors turning to his box with Marjie Wallace and Gloria Connors, while Gloria was in Illinois.
3-0 out of 5 stars Whines as Much as McEnroe
As an avid tennis player and reader I looked forward to his book. While I enjoyed watching McEnroe and enjoy his broadcasting ability, I can't say I'm much of a fan of his outsized ego. You'd think this book would therefore be much to my liking.Unfortunately, I only found this book mildly entertaining. There are a lot of subjects I liked but nothing that makes this a compelling exciting read for the average fan.Tennis aficionados may still want to read however.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good News for Tennis Fans
Bill Scanlon has brought back the good old days of great tennis.I was only unhappy that the book wasn't longer because with every chapter I found myself reminded of another great tournament or match between McEnroe and Connors or Borg or Lendl.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good, Complete Tennis Analysis
I bought this book as I have mentally been struggling with nerves in match play. There were a couple of chapters on the psycology of tennis and how to deal with nerves and pressure.I found those helpful. The famous sports psychologist, Jim Loehr was quoted in there quite a bit.
5-0 out of 5 stars My #1 tennis book
This is the best of instructional books out there. The author does not give you a glam rock romp of who he has instructed on the tour, but instead he gives YOU the "I want to be better than average club player" guy some solid advice on more than just tennis stroke production which you probably already have in place in your game. You actually remember the advice in a match, you use it to improve your game that is in place already and you are given tools to complete your game on and off the court. This is the book that took me pushed me beyond a 4.5.

I love this book!I first saw Sex Flex when I went to a friend's house. He had it on his desk right next to his muscle mags.I laughed when I saw it.A guide for working out with your partner while being intimate?Hah!No way!!!!! (In all truth, I was a little excited by the idea.)5-0 out of 5 stars Great Bonding Book.
This book was great! My wife and I are very busy, and this is great for us to spend some time together. We get to do something that we both enjoy. We are also more limber than we have been in a long time! The pictures were great.Nina and John really looked like they were having a good time, which actually made it easier for us to relax.Reading the credits, I was pleased to see the use of an actual couple for the photos, and not just two models who didn't know each other. That way when I see them smiling in the pictures, I know it is genuine.

Not only does it offer techniques to improve personal physicality, it gives couples the opportunity to better themselves as a pair. 3-0 out of 5 stars A good book but somewhat outdated
This is a book by one of the greatest players of squash. I think the most unique thing about this book is it's style. The book follows the way Hashim (the author) thinks. Since he did not receive formal education beyond elementary level therefore, the sentences are broken and not what you'd expect from an ordinary book. His sincerity toward the reader and the game of squash comes out very well in this book.Since Hashim wrote this book in the 60's, the content is somewhat outdated. Some of the squash shots that he shows (illustrated by photographs) are outdated and seldom used in todays sport. Overall, a good book that needs to be brought up to date. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A Disappointing Sequel to Total Zone
Ex-Tennis Pro Jordan Myles is back and she's using her detective skills to investigate the death of young girl who worked for a sleazy sports agent. The action gets muddled with far too many characters (and not enough suspects) to keep track of. Then more people start turning up dead, and Jordan's life is threatened. When she finally figures out whodunit and why, there's no real surprise and the story ends very weakly.3-0 out of 5 stars Breaking Point
