Wonderful! This book will teach you how to focus on the most important part of the game....mental focus. It teaches you to restart each point and motivates you to deal with the most harrowing part of the game....yourself. 1-0 out of 5 stars nice writing about someone not so nice
I would categorize this book as nice writing that takes a former star and tries to analyze him, while acknowledging his icon or idol status.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good history of the men's games, but...
Baltzell has put together a really good historical piece on men's tennis, but he draws some pretty far-reaching conclusions about the superiority of pre-war Anglo-American culture from, among other things, the number of non-English-speaking countries that have won the Davis Cup since the advent of open tennis. It's an excellent read for the history, but be ready for some sociological conclusions that are based on shaky evidence.

5-0 out of 5 stars Detailed history from a sociological angle
Ever wonder why men's professional tennis is plagued by poorly behaved super-brats?This book explains the development of the sport, from its high-class Anglo-American origins to its devolution into a crass, in-your-face money-making scheme.Along the way one sees the departure of the WASPs (Prof. Baltzell invented that term by the way) who started the game, and the accompanying departure of the genteel sportsman-like attitude they originally insisted upon. The WASPs were replaced first by lower-class American and British whites, then by persons from all over the globe, of many hues.Along the way, as Prof. Baltzell explains, the game's original unwritten code of good behavior was tossed aside, as players opted instead to become tennis court litigators, disputing every close call and whining when things didn't go their way.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good overview of the women's tour
This book is good to learn about the tennis tour in general and how the business is changing. However when it comes to the actual players, you only get a glimpse of them.Since it is not a bio of any of the players, that may be too much to ask.Tennis fans who follow the writer's online column may not get much more insight into the game. However newcomers may find it informative.I liked the book but it didn't go into the hard issues on the tour such as coaches who have affairs with the players and what should be done.Burn out, parent/coach abuse, public pressure, big money, girls supporting their families, etc.You get a small overview of these problems. At the very least parents should read it if they want their kids to become pro atheletes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable quick read for tennis fans
A must read for anyone who wants to learn more about the players and personalities in the women's tennis world. I also learned a great deal about the women's tennis circuit.Very quick read and quite enjoyable.1-0 out of 5 stars Lacking Substance
Given it's title, I thought this book would be about Venus Williams. She is mentioned throughout, and the focus of the last two chapters. But its by no means a book about her.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Tennis Practice games can work!
With some tweaking I was actually able to use many of the practice games with favorable results. Not all of the games worked, and some I had to improvised, but over all it gave my kids some fun and a new perspective to the same old ideas that we have been trying to pound into their brain.

1-0 out of 5 stars This books hits the "tin", just as a bad squash stroke would
I read the book hoping I would gain some insight into the game I have been playing at a competitive level for over 8 years.I was disappointed to find out that despite having been written by one of squash's legends,Hashim Khan, it fails, on every account, to provide any useable informationfor either begginers or advanced players.Nor are the illustrations withinthe pages of the book inspiring.I do not recommend this book for anyonelooking to gain or deepen their wisdom of this fascinating sport. If Iwere a squash referee, I'd call a "let point" against this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fun book. Not good for learning the game
I bought the book hoping to learn squash, being a beginner. I was disappointed to find that it wasn't written for that purpose. It has nuggets of wisdom from one of the greats, so I suspect it could be more interesting for an advanced player of for a squash aficionado, but not for someone looking to learn the game from the ground up. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars simple but very effective
This "but ugly" green book is a "sleeper" that cuts right to the CORE of how the game should be played. In essense, USA TC places heavy emphasis on playing the game itself correctly and not on things such as stroke mechanics.Like most other tennis books, the subject matter is compartmentalized, but TC uses a somewhat different approach to each subject matter. No tennis book library should be without a copy in it.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT SOURCE BOOK
This is an excellent book, recommended both for the beginner and moderately advanced player. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This book does a great job of teaching basic skills and strategies and giving a good overview of philosiphy of the game.the instructions are very clear and the pictures show the exact sequence of movements for proper performance of skills. This book also features drills for improving techniques and conditioning as well as basic strength and flexibility training information.for the true beginner, this book also contains the IBF rules (at the time-setting score needs update). This book took me from a terrible player with no prior knowledge of the game, to an outstanding player. Highly reccomended for beginner to intermediate recreational or competitive player. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth Implementing In Your Junior Program
Growing up with David Britt, it was an honor to purchase his book sharing his thoughts, experiences and advise to parents and coaches. I think so much of this book that I have implemented it as purchase for parents of young people in my own Junior ACADEMY. Doing this has saved alot of time and similar repeated conversations about the development of each child in the program.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book for Families With Junior Tennis Players!
Yes, this is a great book for parents. It is also a great book for young tennis players.I highly recommend it to tennis families like mine.5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book for Junior Tennis Parents
This book was by far the best book I have read and the only book I have found on this topic. The thoroughness and the personal touch that the Author gives is second to none.It was a fun read and one that I can easily remember and relay onto my children.I have two children that play tennis. One that has been at it for a number of years and the other that is just starting.I am thankful to have found this book now, but really wish that I had it when my first child started playing tennis. This book is helpful for parents who already have experienced junior tennis players and for ones that have kids who are just getting started. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Acquiring Proper Tennis Movement - Moving faster therefore!!
Another good piece of work from the former Chief Trainer of the German Tennis Federation.Richard is still very much active in research for tennis - in all aspects of the game.Currently, a much sought after speaker at the International Tennis Federation's seminars worldwide, this new work by him provides greater practical knowledge to be added for speed around/across the tennis court, as distinct from pure speed down a 100 metre track. Covered topics include enhancing innate speed, power in speed, endurance etc. Coaches of all levels of skill will definitely find something useful in this new book.I know I have, besides the hundreds of coaches in Europe and the Americas applying it on court at this moment when you are reading this review. ...
