Good intro book
I bought this book expecting to get a football playbook.Well, I got some football plays, but not a full playbook. If you're new to football then this book would be for you.I got what I was looking for in www.totalplaybook.com .They offer a pretty solid offensive and defensive playbook.If you are a rookie then get this book, but for us veterans the www.totalplaybook.com or equivalant is more our speed...

Dee Hawkes does a great service to all coaches with this compilation of the best offensive plays in current use.He also provides a handy "play finder" section for quick reference. This is NOT a playbook!

Lots of drills... not much variety
This book, and the other Dutch Soccer Drills book is full of drills, that if you are interested in running them from a coaching perspective, involve a lot of "pattern" play and running.As a competitive level youth coach I personally only use only a handful of drills from these books, and mostly the small-sided games, which do not constitute a large part of this book.Drills where players pass from one position to the next, move, then do some function are good conditioning exercises for the beginning of practices, but they are robotic and repetition oriented and really have limited use training players to make good decisions during games.Stick to the Weil Coerver series for skill development and then keep practices to 2 vs 2, 3 v. 3, 3 v 4 small games for the best development of youths.

Complicated Drills
I found most of the drills to be quite complicated and difficult to implement on the field.I did find some useful drills and others may become more useful in the future as I coach upper age groups, up to U-12right now.But the time lost explaining the drills and setting them up isbetter spent on less complex drills with more ball touches per player.Ialso prefer small sided games to allow the game to teach the players.

It it a lot of fun.

Worth reading and rereading
This is the only comprehensive book that I keep coming back to again and again.A cornerstone for your library.

A good compilation of insights
This book is a series of articles on widely varying topics related to soccer, authored by many different coaches and prominent personalities in the sport.The book covers virtually everything from elementary concepts (shooting, passing, etc.) to more advanced topics (zonal defending, wing play, interval training) and everything inbetween (restarts, goalkeeping, nutrition, even sportsmanship).The book provides an excellent overview of many topics, and includes activities with diagrams for most concepts.I am involved in coaching from u9 to the collegiate level, and have found this book a valuable resource.My only complaint is its organization; the book contains a short biographical statement for each contributor (all listed in one location), but there is no index, which makes it somewhat difficult to find information on a specific topic, such as 1 v. 1 defending.

Fair but appealing as a Toolkit
I found this book good for the specific lessons it contained, not for the layout or cohesiveness.Basically it is a set of articles/chapters published by individuals who coach soccer, so the point of view is usefulif not only limited to the USA's point of view (we have never had aextremely successful program w/ the exception of the WWC).Some of thenames are more credible than others.The specific sections can give greatinformation about the less appreciated aspects such as nutrition,soccer-specific exercises, goalkeeping, one-on-one challenges, etc. ... Girls of the Century
Jere Longman's, The Girls of Summer, is by far one of the best non-fiction books I have ever read.I am a huge Womens National Team fan.I am always in search for a great book, depicting the life and success's of the entire team.He coherses through the professional and personal lives of the women that grabbed the hearts of the United States.Their success is revealed in this wonderful book. God moves in mysterious ways
Robbie Fowler is the God of Liverpool. Anyone who has watched his goals in a Liverpool jersey will tell you, in an era when you've the enimagtic Eric Cantona, the powerful Alan Shearer and, to a certain extent, a "prolific" Andy Cole ruling the headlines, that Robbie Fowler just happens to have a little more of that midas touch in front of goal.
He's just Robbie, Robbie from the block
I am a massive fan of Fowler the footballer. His life had all the ingredients for an interesting book: phenomenal talent, early success, hilarious pranks, bastard managers, terrible injuries, bad luck. He also seemed more honest and witty than your average footballer, so I had high expectations from his autobiography, but they were not met.

This book is for you if you are a big soccer lover like I am
This book takes you through all of the Fifa soccer teams.It even talks about the teams in depth, like about their past history of goals and victories, and even in losses.It takes you to the best players on thoseteams and tells the victories or losses that the player had on the team. New Edition is Way Better
I'm a multi sport athlete who trains all year round regardless of what sport I play. I bought a few of these Ultimate Guide to Weight Training books, and they definitely helped me train specifically for the different sports that I play. Then about a year later I received an email from amazon that there was a new edition out.These upgraded editions are even better than the originals, with more articles and a lot more sport-specific information. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who plays a lot of sports or wants to specifically focus on training for one sport in particular.
