Gives you more depth in tactics
This book is suited for coaches who wants to learn more about defensive tactics. It's not a book for beginners although many exercises in this book should, in my opinion, be utilised already in youth soccer to help youngsters understand basic defensive skills.

Making practice fun
FUNdamental Soccer Practice is chock-o-block filled with fun drills to make practice more like a party than a chore.There are many activities which keep young players giggling while working hard to improve their skills. I used suggestions from this book for three years to plan practices and took a travelling team of girls from the cellar of division four up to a contender in division two; laughing all the way. This is a creative and fun book!

The FUNdamental SOCCER Method worked for me!!!
...Written by Karl Dewazien, California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA) director of coaching since 1978, this book showed me 'how to' develop, organize and run a successful youth practice.The book has apparently been translated into 'Spanish and Chinese' and is currently used by coaches in the People's Republic of China.It is also being used by CYSA as a coaching school manual -I know this for a fact since that is where I received my first copy. The pages are delightfully illustrated with games and activities that can be easily implemented by anyone. After I started to apply the FUNdamental Soccer method my players didn't want to leave our practices.I have learned to disguise the hard work that it takes to become a good soccer player and youth soccer team.This book gets my 'two thumbs' up!!!

The Champion Within
Finally a book that deals with the biggest part of any sport...mental!They say that being a goalkeeper is 90% mental yet very few books give you tips on the ins and outs of getting in touch with that part of your game.This book is great at giving you ideas on reaching your champion and bringing it out on the pitch.Not only a great book for directing coaches in this aspect of the job, but also a valuable tool for players to reach their individual successes and full potential.

Cover the ENTIRE field with this resource
This book has it all.Skills, drills, tactics, safety, how to organize the team and deal with parents as well as fitness and psychology goals.This is a professional publication, but written with the average youth coach in mind so there are many practical tips and trick that can be immediately implemented with a team.I'll be using this book for YEARS!

Great book!
As a Brit living in the US who had played soccer for many years, I became involved in coaching youth soccer (U10) a couple of years ago. I purchased numerous books for ideas on drills and approaches to teaching soccer. I consider this book to be one of the best! Not what was expected
Not the strongest of Lucchesi's books - I expected the counter attacking to be a discussion of how to implement explosions from the back up to the front, ala the 80's German national teams that were able to go from defending in front of their nets to producing a shot on net in 6 passes or less.Instead you get a lot of discussion of how different tactical set-ups match up against each other which is really kind of esoteric.Soccer is not a scientific endeavor like American football or basketball.The proper title of this book should have been "Counter-actions" not counter attacking, and while it is an interesting read, all things being equal the info in this book will have little practicality to most coaches, even higher level ones. ... Nice story
This book was especillay enjoyable to read this summer after Italy's win in the World Cup.Regardless, I found the book a delight to read.If you enjoy Soccer or Italy, you would likely enjoy this book.

Is this worthy of a book?
By the time "Grande Joe" steps off the plane in Italy and his book begins, the Miracle of Castel Di Sangro has already taken place.What we are left with is the much less exciting and much more common story of a team playing to avoid relegation.Is it just me or did McGinniss arrive a season too late?There simply isn't any story left.The football commentary and insight are of the armchair variety and even if it wasn't, the football just isn't that good (by the author's own admission).
"guilty pleasure"
All 3 stars are for the author's writing style. He has confirmed a suspicion of mine that when journalists want to really WRITE they do it about sports, because it's like writing fiction while providing a steady income. McGinniss' metaphors for the mundane transcend much that is bad about his book. (Which is my favorite description of inert players on a field: "hatracks," or "blow-up dolls"? I don't know. They're both great.)

Tom Hull - Review as Coach and Owner
Nicely organized book for any soccer coach or aspiring coach.This covers ground that some books tend to miss.We've used this in our youth clinics and drill instruction.I enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone that will be putting time into the development of athletes and/or teams.

This book is for every soccer coach out there, at any level. It has fantastic contributions from the likes of Anson Dorrance and Steve Sampson. I am a UEFA A licensed coach, and this book was well worth me reading!

This is a great collection of articles from experienced coaches and trainers - many of them well-known names. Coaches at any level will benefit from the insights offered. Luxbacher's the Best!
I've read all of Luxbacher's soccer books.Judging by how he writes, he's one of the best youth coaches in America.I've incorporated many of Luxbacher's drills and small-sided games into my sons' teams' practices.Luxbacher and publisher Human Kinetics are the best in America!

Great ideas for a coach who does not have any
One of the best books on soccer coaching ever.The drills are very simple to follow.I have incorporated some of the ideas into my own coaching sessions and the team that I coach really loves it. They have fun whilst at the same time they learn some basic skills.With this book, you will not be short of ideas on how to run soccer practices.
