2-0 out of 5 stars Not what the title implies
This book is designed for mega body builders who want advice on taking lots of supplements in order to bulk up and obtain the type of physique shown on the cover. It is not very good at explaining how to get maximum nutritional value from food in order to more efficiently burn fat, which is what I was hoping for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book that introduces sound advice and concepts
This book is largely Dent's take on the Macro Nutrient ratios i.e. how much of our food intake should be Carbohydrates, Protein and Fat. In Macrobolic Nutrition these ratio's are 45% Carbs, 35% Protein, and 20% Fat.
5-0 out of 5 stars Macrobolic Nutrition
This book is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to learn more about how important the types of food we eat are when trying to sculpt a lean and muscular physique. It comes complete with Glycemic indexes, nutrient breakdowns, and caloric intake charts for people over/under 15%bodyfat, active/sedentary, breakfast, lunch and dinner meal plans. The best part about the diet is that it doesn't restrict anything. Without giving away everything the nutrient breakdown goes 45/35/20- carbs, protein, fat. The book gives detailed descriptions of when the best time is to take in your nutrients, and supplement recomendations. Given that Dente runs his own supplement company that isn't surprising, but the advice is solid and from what I've heard his MHP product line is top notch. As a personal trainer I have been recommending this diet to my clients, (but actually getting them to follow through is a different story). Try it for yourself and you won't be disappointed. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I own an earlier version
This book is heavily referenced by Louie Simmons of the Westside Barbell Club in Columbus.
4-0 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up!
Some of the topics in the book are quite technical but you'll be able to understand them after a few times of rereading. The book does not show you routines to follow but what it does is show you what methods worked and did not work. This book is for all those who want to understand the science behind strength training. It does not give you a specific program but it equips you with the knowledge on how to develop your own. This book deserves a space in your strength training library and is a must for any serious lifter, coach and athlete.

5-0 out of 5 stars Decades of experience
This book is based on decades of methodically documented training of Russian athletes. Rather than use hypothesis of what training methods SHOULD work, found so commonly in U.S. training literature, what you'll read in this book is scrupulous analysis of what actually worked and what didn't work. There is no equivalent in the U.S. athletic training system; no one has tracked and scientifically analyzed the training of U.S. athletes like the Russians did with their centralized training programs. 5-0 out of 5 stars Championship Book Review
This is one of the most beneficial books I have ever read.it is easy to follow, it is fun to read and I was eagerly awaiting the next page.If you are serious about coaching, this is a must have book.5-0 out of 5 stars Championship Team Building: What Every Coach Needs to Know t
I am both an experienced girls basketball coach as well as a psychiatrist.I HIGHLY recommend this book to coaches of any team. The strategies are effective and important. It can be easy to overlook importance of the mental aspect of athletic performance.Mr. Janssen does an excellent job of clarifying the role coaches have in this aspect of the game and gives practical advice on how to acheive better team performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great road map to building a championship team
This book is awesome. It gives you a virtual roadmap that is easy to follow. I am now in the process of using it with my son's team. The evaluation forms are informative and the exercises are easy to do. I would recommend this book to all coaches and players who want to take their teams to the next level. It is also very good for parents to help them understand the role and the need for the role that their child plays on the team.It will be interesting to see how this affects the play of our team that traditionally plays well against really good teams, but then reduces the level of its play to not so great teams. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good, easy read.
This is a pretty good, easy read.It doesn't hit you with a lot of scientific mumbo-jumbo that you'll never understand.Instead, it gives you a basic, common-sense approach to improving the mental aspect of your game. The author shows how the physical world and the emotional world are related, and how being stronger mentally can help you perform better in your sport.
5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest book on mental preparation for sports
All I can say is that my husband a college baseball coach of 35 yrs thought this book was so important he sent it to the Cubs trainer and the pitching coach for the Padres!

1-0 out of 5 stars So-so, look at others before you buy
This book was so-so. It contained a lot of highly basic material. I was not really impressed with Dr. Loehr's theories about sport. It seemed that he did not have much access to sport himself. The examples that were given were very modest and could have used some help. I would only reccommend this book to someone who has rarely particiapted in sports...too basic for the advanced. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars highy recommended
This book is the real encyclopedia with thorough contemplation ofa very experienced author. You will not find numerous pictures or the beginning stuff several times repeated in this work. But you will find two-column dense text of pure-gold information that every good and skillful weightlifter or bodybuilder should know.
3-0 out of 5 stars NOT for beginners, very good for more advanced lifters
The book is huge and really explains every tiny aspect of O lifting. If you are a beginner it can actually be a bad thing since you're flooded with an enormous amount of information, but when you have a solid foundation and you aren't just lifting to improve your performance but participating in the sport of weightlifting this book is for you. 5-0 out of 5 stars It is about time to have a Second Edition.
It is about time for Mr. Drechsler to refine his encyclopedia in a newer edition. He must find ways of reducing the lengthy pages of text, without illustration or appropriate paragraph breaks, into less boring and modern style. His wealth of knowledge is greatly undermined by his extensive literal description of techniques and approaches, with skimpy illustrations. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Great book. The author is an experienced writer and triathlete. He covers everything you need to know about triathlons and then some. Subjects include training methods, equipment, nutrition, swim training, bike training, run training, staying healthy, preparing for the race, what to expect on race day.
5-0 out of 5 stars Book review
Excellent entry point for the beginner and intermediate athlete interested in triathlon training. Offers insight to equipment and training, saved me a bunch of money on my most important equipment.

5-0 out of 5 stars It really is a Complete Triathlon Book!
This book is fabulous! I used it to successfully train for my first triathlon, the Half Ironman at the Grand Coulee Dam, WA. Those who say there's not a training schedule in this book must have read it upside down. Most of the entire book is coaching you to adapt many time proven tactics to your own style and ability. The chapters are loaded with examples of different training techniques and drills. I used the many suggestions and created an individualized complete training plan. In addition to this book I also ordered Eric Harr's Triathlon Training in Four Hours a Week. While Harr's book was wonderful, I found this book from Triathlete Magazine to be far superior in detail and explanation on what and how to train for race day. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Have followed the plan and have seen NO results!
As far as I am concerned, '8 Minutes in the Morning to a Flat Belly' was a total waste of my money.I've been following this workout and eating plan for over four months now and have seen no reduction in neither my belly size nor my weight.Frankly, I was seeing more results from my old Denise Austin Low Impact Aerobic Workout tape than this, so it looks like I'm saying goodbye to Jorge and going back to Denise.Sorry Jorge, I gave it my best shot but your plan just doesn't work for me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Exercises!
I really love the exercises in this book, and they really do help me! I have been adding more than just these exercises to my routine (mostly walking), but for toning, I love these.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent guide to butt and legs advanced shaping
I bought this book after I bought the "The complete book of ABS" by the same authors. I was so impressed by the thoroughness and effectiveness of the first book, that I decided to try this one and "The complete book of shoulders and arms".
3-0 out of 5 stars Good but a little disappointing after the Book of Abs
The introductory chapters are as good as those found in the Brungardt's Complete Book of Abs, but having read that book there is little new useful information in the wellness and nutrition sections.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide for training
This book is an excellent reference for specific plans for designing a training schedule. For beginner triathletes like myself, it has helped me get a good idea of what should go into training and how I should train for the 3 sports. I recommend this book especially for those, also like me, who have very little time to train.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Training Asset!
This is an excellent book for anyone looking for training plans that are completely laid out. There are plans for all distances, from sprint to ironman triathlons, as well as nutrition and resistance training guidlines.

5-0 out of 5 stars First Duathlon - 3rd Place!
I had been running for about 2 years prior to purchasing this book, training with a running club.I wanted to try my first duathlon but could not find a local club to help me with a program.I bought this book, followed the Runner-to-Duathlete plan faithfully for 10 weeks.I did my first triathlon and placed third in my age group!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great ab workout, the rest, well.....
This book has great ab routines, although it took me a bit to organize them all into a workout. Its kinda like the authors threw all the pages of the book into the air, then glued them together and put a cover on it. However once you actually find the routines, they are good. Although I would get another strength training routine, one that may not have the best abodominal excercises and combine it with this book. The rest of the stuff in the book was usless to me, and most training routines, that I've seen, dont really have a great ab/core workout. Bottom line; you get the best for your core, and you can dump the rest.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great ideas presented in poorly organized manner
The basic premise of the book is conditioning the abdominal, low back, and hip muscles such that the whole body mass is stabilized during activity. That great idea is over inflated with the word "core" that the authors overuse redundantly and apply it to the mind, body, anatomy, and eating. The simple format of writing style, short chapters, and plenty of the authors' well tested advices, render the book invaluable source of information on effective fitness practice.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Resource For Total Core Training
This book covers it all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book and Program
I have been on many diets my whole life, until I read this book. The book is easy to read, pictures are easy to understand and follow. The nutrional part is easy to follow and understand. I have been following the book for 6 weeks and lost 15 pounds and feel great. I notice the difference between how the body reacts between the white carbs and the whole grains, my headaches stopped and I have energy, especially going to the gym for 20 minutes in my hetic schedule.
4-0 out of 5 stars Once a week versus three times a week
All exercise follows a similar process. Do more than your muscles can handle and your muscles, as a form of self-protection, adapt by getting stronger. This book presents just one of the methods that will work to produce body improvements. It does a good job. It is easy to understand and easy to follow.
3-0 out of 5 stars Did not work for me!
I joined the gym for the first time sevral days ago.First time when I went and set down on the first machine the book said to use (you have to use the machines in order), I just set down and started to do the reps when a guy came over and stood by me staring at me while I exercised.I got upset with him, so I just left without finshing the routine and went to another machine. I have noticed that people tend to want to use the machine that your on no matter what times you go go the gym. I even went to the gym in the morning and very late at night, but it was always so crouded with people. When I finally was able to do the routines the way the book says to do them, after a month, I still have not noticed any significant weight loss-infact, I gained weight!I was told by a personal trainer at the gym that the workouts that a person should be doing will be different depends on the way the person is shaped. For example, a person who is pear shaped should not do so much weight lifting but concentrate more on walking, running and things like that.Person who is already skinny should concentrate more on lifting weights to get their body well toned up.He told about other body shapes and what they should be doing more. After I followed my gym personal trainer's advice, I noticed that I begain to loose weight. Also, my personal trainer did not like what the Power of 10 book said about how you don't need to do any cardio exercises. He said it was very important to do some cardio exercises to keep your heart heathy.Lifting weights really does not do much for your heart-which I did not know this until my personal trainer told me.I am so glade that I only checked this book out at the library and not actually bought it.I will not recommend this book for anybody. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars All inclusive... book and DVD
I'm glad I bought this book and DVD workout.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great program!
I've been doing Pilates on the Ball by Colleen Craig for a year now. The book alone is not enough; the DVD is essential. I keep one eye on the TV, both ears on the gentle background music and Ms. Craig's voice, and my whole body relaxed, as Ms. Craig leads me through my 45 minute workout, both verbally and visually. I'm in my mid-60's, and this program is helping my posture stay young and my body strong. I've recommended it to several colleagues, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Ms. Craig speaks the instructions on the DVD, so you can follow the exercises even if you can't really focus on the TV screen as you do them. She speaks to bodies which have sore backs or sore knees, and advises people how to be careful so they don't get injured. I just love this program!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Stuff
I got quite a bit of good information from this book and with that information I was able to finally bust through a plateau that I'd been struggling with for months.Could I have gotten this information for free off the Internet?Probably. But, I was getting tired of reading articles here and there and wanted one good source of information that I could read in the bathroom.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Information
I have read almost all of this book, and it has a lot of good general information about diet, suppliments, and workout routines. There is no specific method that the author recommends, but to take and try some of his technic's and see how they will work for you.I would recommend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the read

1-0 out of 5 stars not for most people
First of all, the book has about 200 pages of useless stories.Once you get past that, the substance is decent for a select group of people. The small section of the book that actually deals with HIT can be useful to people interested purely in bodybuilding; I would recommend it to those people.
2-0 out of 5 stars good book but takes way too long to get to the topic
Good book if you like reading about the authors background into the subject. He just took to long praising the man who basically invented the technique. This book could have been way smaller in volume.I would go with the Encyclopedia of Muscle and Strength. It took a page to detail what this technique is all about. I would pass on this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly structured, poor on form, poor on substance
I got used to the jargon of the weight training bazaar. Words such as "Encyclopedia", "Revolution", "Truth", "New rules", "New methods", and "Never tried before" cease to amuse me. This book by Ellington Darden has few things that captured my curiosity. His serious look at the barbell and constant lack of warm facial expression correlates to the circumstantial structure of the book. There are many personal tales that waste the reader's time without apparent purpose. Frowning at the barbell does not render training "high intensity", particularly if the lifter is emaciated, muscle-wise.

5-0 out of 5 stars An engaging memoir that deserves a wide audience
This engaging memoir deserves a wide audience.Anyone interested in bodybuilding, weightlifting, sports medicine, the history of the fitness movement, magazine publishing, marketing, motivational thought, Napoleonic history, or diplomacy will find this book worth reading.Schwarzenegger fans may learn a few new things about the Governator, who was Joe "Master Blaster" Weider's star protégé in the early 70's and features prominently in the narrative.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Edition of this Book
I'm a multi sport athlete who trains all year round regardless of what sport I play. I bought a few of these Ultimate Guide to Weight Training books, and they definitely helped me train specifically for the different sports that I play. Then about a year later I received an email from amazon that there was a new edition out. These upgraded editions are even better than the originals, with more articles and a lot more sport-specific information. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who plays a lot of sports or wants to specifically focus on training for one sport in particular.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful workout program
With help from this workout program I gained baserunning speed and an increase in bat head speed. This program is written very clearly and easy to follow.
