1-0 out of 5 stars Missing Pages
I just received this book from Amazon and was greatly dismayed to find that pages 119 - 150 are missing, and pages 89 - 118 are repeated in their place. That's like Ford shipping a car with the engine installed in the trunk - what a basic mistake! Now I have to go through the effort to return the book and wait 7 - 10 days for a refund after they get it back!
5-0 out of 5 stars Humble, practical and result oriented
In 1996 after I went to US from India, within a year, I was overweight and then the fitness blues started. I went thru several cycles of extreme exercising, dieting, painandgive-up. During the same time I wanted to find a no-nonsense fitness literature. One of the criterias of my search was to avoid the books boasting photographs of ideal bodies. When I saw this book, I trusted my instinct and bought it. For four months I followed the programs (from this book) from "program before program" to "basic program 2" and reduced several kilos. During this time, I did not clearly follow very important advise from the book about increasing the training progressively. I had to give up because I was doing too much after getting encouraged by initial results.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent and Easy to Follow Handy Guide on Chest, Back & Shoulders Training

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for beginners
This is the 2nd book on weight lifting I've read. The first one being "Muscle Logic" which was both difficult to grasp as a beginner, and also a very unrealistic program to actually accomplish (read it and you'll see why you couldn't do this unless you owned your own gym).
5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Routines
I have read a few body-building books and think this one, along with the other books in the same series (arms, legs, abs, etc), are the best to date.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Motivating, but not a training guide
As a recreational Mountain Biker, i found this book motivating. However, it's not a "training guide" for cyclists. Everyone that has never trained should consider buying this book, since it explains the principles involved in heart zone training. You will also find very interesting indoor workouts in the book. It's not the book for the intermediate cyclist.

2-0 out of 5 stars folks who work for Sally E shouldn't write reviews
Several people who work for Sally Edwards wrote glowing reviews of theis book.I think their are some ethical issues in reviewing a book written by your employer or business partner.4-0 out of 5 stars Useful information for beginners but painful to read
This is a book one just wants to hate. The two authors waste pages writing praise for one another. They give their workout recipes (over 60) cutesy-poo names like "Saturday Night Fever" and "Snookie". Much of the book amounts to promotional messages for the programs by Heart Zones, of which one of the authors just happens to be CEO. Most disturbing, perhaps, the authors do not appear to have any medical or scientific credentials to backup their position as authorities.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read But I Have Other Recommendations.
For a more scientific approach, purchase "Diet for Dancers" by Chmelar and Fitt. To eat like a ballerina (light & healthy), buy Linda Hymes' "The Dancing Gourmet". These two books together are all you need.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great book to help you develop anorexia
This book should be avoided by young people. My sister was given this book by her teacher and still has problems with anorexia....

1-0 out of 5 stars read this book with caution
I have read this book several times, and as a dancer, it actually encourages me NOT to follow the outrageous diet plans of the dancers featured in the book.Admittedly, i can relate to the desperate measures that these people will take to lose weight perhaps temporarily, for a certain ballet or an important audition. However, these are not measures that I am proud of, and frankly I find it disturbing that Ms. Kent feels free to encourage extreme behavior, especially in young people (and ESPECIALLY young dancers!)The active lifestyle of a dancer needs to be supplemented by proper nutrition; the mere mention of Susan Jaffe's summer of drinking "a lot of iced tea" to help acquire her job with American Ballet Theatre is dangerous information for aspiring, developing young girls to have their hands on.We can only hope that anyone reading this book for the first time will take it with a grain of salt, considering it was written nearly twenty years ago. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Triple H is THE GAME
This book is a rather good read, even though it does leave a lot out. Triple H is one of my all time favorites, only being outshown by Undertaker. I wish that this book would have went more in-depth into his life, his relationship with Chyna, his friendships, etc. But Triple H is not overweight like some reviewers have said. Did you see the pictures in the book? The man is rock solid. Give him a break, he's busy with expecting a child. Obviously some people haven't went through a pregnancy with their wives.

1-0 out of 5 stars Time to play the OVERWEIGHT game.
Have any of you guys actually seen triple h lately. The man is obese. I have to admit before he left on his four-month vacation, back in June 2005, he was in pretty good shape. Then he came back to the WWE on their special homecoming episode in October 2005 and man he was huge. It looked like he was the one pregnant, not Stephanie McMahon. It seems like triple h has been having too many burgers and not lifting enough weights.
4-0 out of 5 stars triple h's approach to a better body
gave me all the information i was looking for from a professional and reliable source ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Weak on Nutrition; Strong on Workout How To
This is the most comprehensive workout/fitness trainer the I have seen. Complete with color pictures accompanied by written step by step instruction then catagorized by muscle group, this book is perfect for all levels of training ability. Frank's explanation is thorough and even the beginner will be able to preform the exercises. The only thing that is truly lacking is the chapter on nutrition. If a 200 pound woman tried to eat all of the protien, carbs and fat that this book recommends, she would never lose weight. All in all this is great book for training...find another book for nutrition.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great price, full of hype, poor on ideas
Frank's obsession of his physical attraction dominates the book. The arching of his upper back must be due to his lack of understanding of esthetics. He deadlifts and squats in 40 pounds barbell, which is ironic for a man of his size. Furthermore, his deadlift form is totally flawed by arching the spines and stiffening the knees. Then he front squats with crossed arms, which hints to stiff shoulder structures. His front seated press descends below the upper tip of the sternum (the manubrium). Those four technical flaws show that young and motivated lifters with little experience could do more harm than good due to poor understanding of the basic laws of mechanics.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sepe stands for "genius" in another language
Frank Sepe bills this book as the only fitness book you'll ever need. While I doubt that the book is that good...it's certainly more complete than any other single book I've read. And believe me, I've read tons.Almost everything by Gunnar Peterson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stalone, Charles Staley, Pavel Tsatsouline, Mike Mahler, Weider, etc., etc., etc.In total the number is probably close to 50 or 60 books. This is by far the most complete, accurate, and information dense book I have read in the past decade.

5-0 out of 5 stars #1 BBS Manual: "Training to Failure" - D.I.Y Hercules for Everybody
*Note* There is a revised edition of this book.
3-0 out of 5 stars A Classic but dated
I bought and read this book about ten years ago. I used it to start a weightlifting program. There is alot of good information in this book. However, the book is somewhat dated. As I learned from other serious, competitive body builders, there is too much training advised in this volume. Even people who juice don't train this much - and you don't have to to achieve great results. For example, Dorian Yates trains alot less than what Arnold advises in this book and he was Mr. Olympia for a number of years. Consequently, you better off purchasing a more recently published book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for a Beginner and a Advanced body builder
I love this book.I have read many body building and fitness books but this one covers every thing.Evrything you need to know about any body part is in here.Arnold didn't hold back.It is very creative and makes you want to create a a training schedule for yourself. My brother and I actually fought over this book and it fell apart on us so I had to order a new one.I highly recommend this book to any person who wants to do weight lifting. ... Editorial Review

There's a photo of Joseph Pilates on the back cover of this book. He looks like a strapping young James Dean, with rippled abdominal muscles and defined--but not creepily large--quads, pecs, and biceps. He could pass for 30, but he was almost 60 years old when the photo was taken. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent reference on Pilates exercises, but not a good buy for home exercisers

3-0 out of 5 stars Good overview, but not ideal for building a home practice
This book provides a good overview of the Pilates method for those interested in learning about performing a wide range of Pilates movements using various types of Pilates equipment. However, because the average Pilates practitioner is unlikely to purchase most of the equipment featured, this book is less effective for those looking to build a home-based Pilates practice consisting mainly of matwork. The information provided is clear and datailed, and as always, the photographs of Joseph Pilates at various ages are inspiring.Still, most casual Pilates enthusiasts are likely to derive more practical information from a book such as Brooke Siler's The Pilates Body.

5-0 out of 5 stars Covers all aspects of a pilates workout
I really like this book.I have several other books on pilates, and this one is my favorite. It covers matwork, reformer, barrels, wall, cadillac, chair, and circle work. Most other books only focus on one aspect, such as matwork.People have complained that this book talks too much about pilates equipment, but the truth is, pilates is based on using many types of equipment, and this book discusses exercises for each apparatus.Frankly, the book would be incomplete if it didn't discuss the equipment. This book contains excellent pictures and descriptions for each exercise, along with telling you which part of the body you are working and the benefits. If you want to have a full pilates experience (not just matwork), this book is the ticket! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best workout ever!
When I first heard of kettlebells a couple months ago they seemed like they were for hardcore macho-man types--commandos, Green Berets, whatever. Not for me, a plump middleaged woman trying to get into shape and lose fat.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Evolution In Method
"From Russia With Tough Love" represents an evolution in Pavel's methods of teaching kettlebell techniques."The Russian Kettlebell Challenge" was male-oriented, taught basic exercises and then said "Have at it.""From Russia with Tough Love" is designed for women, assumes that the reader is an absolute beginner, starts from ground zero, and builds an effective workout step-by-step.I recommend "From Russia with Tough Love" for anyone, male or female, who is just starting out with kettlebells.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ifyou can get through the clutter...
Eliminating 28 pages of advertising, 41 pages of innane comments plusthe dragondoor ad on each page(we got the message)would improve this book immensely. There are some really good techniques and principles of kettlebell training in this text, but it's almost a bother each time I open it to decipher the organization through the distracting clutter. Definitely needs some professional editing and it could be a respectable training manual. I will hesitate ordering any other of his works before physically seeing them in a bookstore first and verifying the layout first. Even with the great prices at amazon.com, I'm not interested in buying filler pages. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Author Comment
Mr. Zohar is correct that The Waterproof Coach is more helpful to the beginning swimmer or triathlete than to the competitive swimmer. The workouts are mostly freestyle because most fitness swimmers are not proficient in the other strokes. The book is a bit pricey at $29.95 but that is because it is printed on completely waterproof paper. The paper costs three times as much as regular paper. In addition, the workout pages are cut into thirds so that the swimmer can mix and match workouts. This is an expensive part of the manufacturing process. Most of the fitness swimmers and triathletes who have purchased the book since 1997 have been happy with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Waste of Money
In all fairness, I must begin by stating that I am not a triathlete. I am a swimmer. There's a difference. Maybe that's the reason I expected a book that would supply me with some new training ideas. Nada! This book offers the most basic sessions imaginable. Any swimmer can think up better sessions. In fact, you can freely download better training sessions from various internet sites. No drills to speak of in the book. Also, it is assumed that the reader is only swimming freestyle, so there is no stroke training. Lastly, the price is high - $30!
5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have poolside companion
Let's preface this review with the fact that I'm a neophyte "fitness swimmer" . . I've swam before, but only recently had begun swimming for fitness. This book is exactly what I was looking for . .an easy-to-use book with a great variety of workouts.Because it is waterproof (as the title suggests), I can take it to the pool with me to instantly refer to its contents.Sure, if you're a Master's swimmer, or have swam competetively with a coach, this book may be superfluous. But for the rest of us, it's wonderful. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it
This book is okay. The written simulation portion gives you a descent idea of what the test will be like. The multiple choice questions are less practical in preperation for the exam. This book has a lot of questions focused on nutrition, which is not a large focus at all on the NATA-BOC.I would not recommend purchusing this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars save your money
Please save your money and don't purchase this review book. After doing several of the practice questions I began to realize that many of the answers in the answer guide were wrong. Some of the answers also blatantly contradicted themselves.I called the publisher to bring this to their attention and they did nothing about it.How can a person study for this caliber exam when the study material is not accurate?Don't buy this book!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Great, not bad
This book is great for the CD-ROM that comes with it to study for the Written portion of the Exam. On the other hand I don't think it does a very good job explaining the Practical, it may be out of date because they changed the format a little. The practice test for the Written Sim is to easy compared to the real one that you will take. Overall it is O.K., but maybe out of date even though it is only a few years old. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent work out for busy Moms
I just ordered a second copy of the book because the workout charts I have had taped to my wall for the last 8 years are looking tatty.
5-0 out of 5 stars ItReallyWorks!
I have been following the workout plan for two months now.I followed her suggestions of eating a lowfat diet, aerobic activity, and the weights (dumbbells.)My arms, shoulders, thighs, and calves all look toned now.I have a little more work to do on my stomach, but it is smaller than it was two months ago.Just as it took time to get a stomach, I know it will take time to go away. Like one of the other reviewers said, it takes me longer than 20 to 30 minutes, but that'so.k. because the results are worth it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Working Out
I had two previous copies of the book and loaned them out to friends and I loved the results so much that I had to purchase a third copy.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Basic Boxing Book
Re: All the negative comments - Boy, what a bunch of whiners! The author is an amateur white-collar boxer and uses his yuppie buddies in the photos - so what? All I care about is if the techniques are solid, the photos are clear and the writing is coherent (yes to all).Is this book the ultimate boxing reference? No, but it is a very good book for someone just starting out in boxing.I got this book used so I don't feel like I got ripped off. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Training Journal
I am a personal trainer for Gold's Gym and I would recommend this to all of my clients!

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid advice for unsurpassed RESULTS!
Using the information in this book, my husband and I were able to bring both of our persentage of body fat down to a really healthy, trim level. We are active, but had never been able to lose the "slightly soft" look. We figured, "If we work out and eat decently, why are we still chubby?" Cathy Sassin showed us how we were eating incorrectly (too infrequently, without balanced nutrients), and we both lost fat and gained muscle by following her advice. We also gained a lot of energy, and lost all of our hunger pangs, headaches, late-afternoon sleepiness, etc. Now when we eat or work out, we know that we are supporting our goals of lifelong fitness by getting the best results for our efforts. Changing habits takes work, but you'll be more than willing to do it when you can SEE the results immediately! This WORKS. If you're serious, buy the book and do it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book on bodybuilding available
This book is a must have for those who want to learn how to maximize muscle mass and minimize body fat naturally. The author simplifies the whole process of building a muscular body and provides the necessary information so that the reader can customize a program that meets their specific needs. I really appreciate the way the author addresses the nutritional needs of trainees with different metabolic rates. I am an endo-mesomorph (have a slow metabolism and store fat easily) and have successfully applied his advice on diet with great results. I am training to lose body fat and have lost 10 pounds in 9 weeks and 3 inches from my waist. It may not sound like much but it looks like 20 or 30 pounds. You may not want to be a competitive bodybuilder (I don't either) but you can still benefit from all the great training and nutrition advice. Real results only come through consistency in training and proper nutrition. Almost every weight training book is geared for steroid users but the information in this book is applicable to the drug-free athlete. This may be the only reference book you need. One word of caution however. The author discusses supplements and mentions ephedrine as a good fat loss aid, but I would advise you to avoid it because it can have negative effects upon your health. Even if you don't suffer serious side effects, coming off ephedrine will leave you with very low energy levels. Other than that this book is awesome.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must have for any BodyBuilder's Library
I use to bodybuild years ago and was discouraged by the drug use that was obviously there. After ten years I'm thinking about doing something I never quite accomplished; enter a show.I have a lot of books on the subject and I've read a lot through the years.I was so happy to see a book that was all about natural bodybuilding but I was still very skeptical.I've heard and read the term, "natural" from a lot of people but few have delivered. This book is clear and to the point and provides useful comparisons on the differences of natural bodybuilders to drug users. It explains how you have different limits than someone that uses enhancers.
