Stephen P's First Guide
I have been cruising the Bahamas for over 30 years. For all these long times there was just one cruising guide available. And it was quite limited in scope. The along came Stephen Pavlidis. He has singlehandedly upgraded the quality and safetyof Bahamas cruising . His Exumas Cruising Guide is the most complete information you can get for that area. I wouldn't think of cruising the Exumas without it. Stephen Crow, K4CPX

Don't leave home without it
I have cruised the Exumas four winters on my Jeanneau 41.I wouldn't think of doing it without Steven's wonderful book.He includes, for example, many chartlets not to be found in any other guide.Hence, I wasable to find anchorages not well known (and which had, as a result, morelobster!). I found the book to be the Bible for getting in and around the Exuma Cays.More importantly, the book nicely deals with the history, geography, flora and fauna of the cays.There is no way that a person should consider sailing, motoring or paddling into the Exumas without this book in hand. Too bad it was not printed on waterproof paper and bound with stainless steel staples. If your headedfor the Exumas be sure to read and bring a copy along.It might also help to secure it in a large zip lock plastic bag. ... Read more

Good book.
I read this book, and in August 2005 built a floating 10x12' shed housing a 12kw generator on a 12'x20' barge floating on 34 plastic 55 gallon drums using the methods described in this book.I bought those drums for $11 a piece, and found out later they can be had for $8 or maybe even for free.Yeah, the information may be old, but it's still good.It's a way to get yourself out on the water for pennies on the dollar of what you'd have to pay to buy a used commercially built houseboat, and it'll be new and things inside it will work, and not need constant fixing.I had the barge itself built in 3 days, helped mostly by an unruley 12 year old.It could have easily been 36 x 12' and had a nice little house on it.One caveat:You won't be able to insure a craft built using this method.Even if you don't build using the barrel raft method, there's lots of other good information in the book about houseboats, and I like the Jimmy Buffetesque attitude that the author seems to have.

The author seems to be a true original and obviously has a wealth of experience with houseboats.

Totally Awesome!!!!!!!!!
This book was GREAT! Bethany Hamilton shares the story of her family, friends, and what happened to her on Halloween morning in 2003. She does a good job showing her faith in Jesus, and made it clear that it was one of the reasons she survived. This book had plenty of action, enough history and extra info to explain it, and an easy going, fun writing style. It was readable,and written so that it is clear Bethany (not professional writers) wrote the book. I really enjoyed this. This is a good book for anyone, old or young, Christian or nonChristian. Get it! This book is AWESOME!!!!!

Soul Surfer Review
This book is a true story about a 13 year old girl named Bethany Hamilton who was attacked by a shark while surfing near her home in Hawaii. During the attack she lost her arm to a 15 foot shark. But instead of letting the attack ruin her life, she got right back on her surfboard as soon as she could after the accident. Today she competes in professional surfing competitions even though she only has one arm. When she lost her arm she said it didn't hurt at all. If I were her I would have to say it hurt.Her best friend Alana was right next to Bethany when the shark attacked her and she has been a great friend to Bethany through the whole recovery. She also mentions that her parents and her brothers supported her through everything that she went through or will be going through in her life. I learned a lot from this book. I learned not to ever give up on your dreams and to keep faith in yourself.Another thing is always try to keep a positive mind about anything you want to do. I also learned how important having your family and having their support is and that having faith in God can help you get through difficult times in your life. I loved this book and would recommend it to everyone. It is a great family book. The book is intended for young teenage girls. But is a great book for both boys and girls.I think people of all ages can learn a lot by reading this book.

Good Read
Since our long-range goal is to sail the Caribbean I thought this book would help us ready our boat for the adventure. I was not disappointed. Alternately funny & informative this is truly a must-read before you set sail for any long adventure.I have a strong feeling it will be well-worn before we head out.

OK, but...
Contains some useful advice on blue-water sailing.However, after seeing the author's photo on the back cover, I *really* could have done without his lengthy discourse on sexual relations at sea.

Most introductory paddling books begin with equipment and clothing, run through basic strokes and present a couple of simple moves, eddying out and peeling out, for example, with some fundamental river information thrown in at the end.The assumption is that you will learn what you need to know on the water. Nealy does a great job of conveying his to-the-point descriptions in terminology that even the most novice of paddler can understand.Keep in mind that this book is geared towards the paddler that has been in the water a few times, but it is still a great book if you have never even sat in a kayak. Excellent source for basic understanding of Kalman Filtering
This book constitutes an excellent source for understanding the basic operation of the Global Positioning Systems (GPS). It also allows the reader to take the first steps towards understanding how the Kalman Filter is implemented in the estimation of drifting parameters of the GPS. The "Kalman Filter Basics" chapter is preceded by a description of the different errors that affect the GPS signals. Furthermore, this book includes sections on the Wide-Area Augmentation System, Inertial Navigation, and Differential GPS, which enables the understanding of these concepts and thus, provides the reader an overall perspective of the Global Positioning System.
Best source of information on GPS
One of the students in my lecture came up to me and said he had studied this book all summer to learn about GPS.He found it to be very helpful to him and he said it was the best source of information on GPS he had come across.

A motivational read about Natalie
I found this book to be a great read about a swimmer who overcame issues to win 5 Olympic medals.As the mom of two swimmers on a less serious, more recreational, swim team, I can still understand all the pressures she felt.
A unique insite into ultra-competitive swimming
As a former collegiate All-American swimmer, I found Silver's book to be illuminating in many ways.While the writing style is a bit forced at times (for drama's sake), it is overall an interesting read and an honest look into the inner workings of competitive swimming.
Glad I got my copy at the library
As a former swimmer and a CAL grad who always admired Natalie, I looked forward to reading this book.It was a big disappointment:poorly researched, poorly written, and highly biased.Natalie comes across as narcissistic and emotionally fragile; I'm not surprised she had a hard time getting along with her teammates.With the exception of Terry McKeever, the women's coach at CAL who is painted in a saintly, long-suffering light, the profiled coaches were portrayed as insensitive and overbearing; hardly fair in terms of their records of success and the esteem in which their former charges hold them (especially true of Richard Quick at Stanford).I second another reader's recommendation of Gold In The Water as a considerably superior book on competitive swimming. ... Good Reference
This book has helped me with my windsurfing technique(or the lack there'of before I bought this book). I think that it is probably the next best thing next to a lesson, or ten. I would recommend it to anyone with a desire to windsurf, it helped me.

The book is perfect for beginners to advanced
This book covers all bases sections in the windsurfing, including how to choose an equipment, first steps, what you have to eat and tehnics for advanced riders as water start, jibe curve and etc.
Great Instruction & Complete Intro To Windsurfing
I took one windsurfing lesson and then picked up this book. It was perfect. I have advanced very far simply be getting on the water and constantly reffering back to Mr. Bornhoft's detailed instruction. No other lessons have been necessary so far. The author provides excellent photos and diagrams to illustrate the moves and his descriptions are easy to follow and helpfull. I also found the author's coverage of equipment to be very usefull.
