5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Serious Skiers
This book is detailed and comprehensible.Just right for someone seeking to move up intermediate to higher challenges.
5-0 out of 5 stars Written for the intermediate skier
Elling wrote this for an intermediate to advanced skier looking to take their skiing to a higher level.Although it does have a good, large section on basic ski skills, it doesn't pretend to coddle a novice through pizza and french fries.
3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book on skiing
I started out really liking this book, but was less impressed by the end. What I liked about the book is the writing style. Its well written, in an engaging way that makes it easy to keep turning the pages. However, I felt that much of the content was a bit disorganized, like a brain-dump of a terrific skier, but not presented in a way to nurture a skier along from one skill to the next.A good skier will be easily bored with this book in my opinion, I learned very little from it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Summary
I was very fortunate to see Michael Dweck's exhibition "The Surfers Life" here at the renown Blitz Gallery in Tokyo last week and I was very impressed. The show was an astonishingly beautiful collection of images by a very gifted photographer who presents his subject with great sensitivity and warmth. And, though many of these images have been seen before in his book The End:Montauk, NY", it was worth a trip to Blitz to see the show live.
1-0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money
The book's title is, "The End."Let's hope that it is just that...the last of a sorry attempt of portrayal to nowhere. We don't need anymore of this crap shoved on us via a misleading cover photo on a dust jacket solely designed to sell a bad product. Most amazon.com people probably did purchase this book because of the nude surfer chick on the front cover. This is as good as it gets.
1-0 out of 5 stars this book sucks
anyone who is from montauk or the hamptons will this this book is lame. number one the photography is bad. number 2 this guy knows nothing about the area. He rented a house at ditch for 1 summer? big friggin deal. The only bright spot in the book is his choice of models, who he photographed badly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Key product
The amazing thing is that... this CD cost me less than a day pass at the local ski site, and saved me years of floundering around on snow.Tao (the way) of skiing is a large web site on a CD-Rom, complete with ample advise (text, images and small movies). The movies were a lot of fun and the text was straight to the point. (The way you would want to be instructed).Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed the package and appreciated what it has done for me... and I'm not hung on an occasional Typo.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great format and delivery - Well Done.
The CD-ROM is packed full of great advice delivered in easy to read point form (like an Aide Memoire). Each sentence or teaching point stands on its own.I could take one gem of knowledge at a time; without having to wade through pages of pretentious prose. The explanations were very precise and most meaningful to those with some skiing experience under their belt. Best read with an open mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a fun way to study technique
A CD-ROM; I do not know why someone did not think of this before. It is great. I spent hours digesting hundreds of hints on everything from technique, to training and playing the fun and informative Quicktime videos. It is not often that you can look into a decade worth of training diary entries and training notes of a World Cup Gold medalist. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rename to proper mogal skiing
I have been taught and have taught every thing in this book, but NOT AS WELL

5-0 out of 5 stars The title says it all
If you are a good-to-expert groomed-trail skier who has been frustrated when trying to use those skills in the bumps, there's a reason. Contrary to what so many of us believe, mogul skiing isn't just a harder version of carving turns down groomers. It's a totally different animal, and once Dan DiPiro explains it in his outstanding new book, you'll understand why all that effort in the bumps has so far not produced any results.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best and probably only book on bump skiing
I've taken many bump lessons, and have attended weekend mogul camps, and they have ranged from being taught 'mogul survival', which is not what I need, to spending a weekend with great mogul skiers, who point out a mistake or two that your making, and usually teach with the 'watch me' approach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for any skiier (beginner or expert).
I usually don't write reviews for purchases I make.If I'm having to write a review for this one, it really means something.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hey, this is a really cool book
I must say this is a really cool book.I mean, first of all, the title is exactly what this book is about "Things Every Skier Must Know".Finally, a book that lives up to its title!Daaamn! This book is quite unique in that it does not teach you ski technique or ski mechanics or ski maintenance...just way, way too many of these books.Instead, this book teaches you stuff...really useful, practical stuff like how to hook up your skis on your car rack...the right way!Or how to look for a well-qualified ski instructor - believe me, this is not an easy task to do!I've taken so many ski lessons and ended up with so many bad ski instructors, it's not even funny and I pretty much had to learn skiing on my own. There is also great advice on how to prepare for a ski vacation and some brief notes on skiing on various terrains and even a chapter on ski racing! This book ponders on almost every aspect of skiing but the kitchen sink (What does that have to do with skiing, you wonder...absolutely nothing).I highly recommend this book.It is a great read on the plane or long trips to the ski resort.I mean it is quite lengthy for a ski book, but then I can't recall a ski book that is about everything there is to know about skiing?

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome story my son loves it!
We love all of her books and buy them 1 at a time as we can afford them. In an age of big in your face pop up books and childrens books that make your eyes hurt these books are a wonderful find. As always the illustrations are beautiful - I read all the reviews first but few had actual specifics about the actual invdividual stories of her books, so that's what I've done here. I hope it helps others know what wonderful books they are. I wish they were easier to find in Canada.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "big little book"
As a longtime Alaskan, I feel fortunate to have had both Doug and Jill in many courses. The book Snow sense is now the required reading material for all Nat'l Ski Patrol avalanche courses, and rightly so. I read it at thebegining of every season. True avalanche professionals. If you ever havethe chance, come to Alaska and take one of their courses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome ski instruction system
I have experiencedfirst hand instruction with this system.I have also taken the PSIA lessons offered at many ski areas. If you don't want to be stuck in the wedge forever then have a look at this.Harald Harb's PMTS is a systematic approach that will get you skiing better than 90% of the people you see skiing on any given day.Don't beleive the hype about out of the mainstream. They have something here. Believe it, this system works. If you want to carve and rip this is it!

5-0 out of 5 stars false information
Yes, this is the author of, "Anyone Can Be an Expert Skier." I am doing this to fairly represent a service for the public. Regular ski instructors don't want you to know about the PMTS. They misrepresent our product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Contribution to XC Skiing
Einar Svensson has put an amazing level of effort and care into producing "Ski Skating With Champions: How to Ski With Least Energy," and it shows. 5-0 out of 5 stars Detailed, analytical approach
Mr. Svensson's book presents detailed analyses of 17 skate skiing techniques and more.I really liked that each technique was presented in a several different ways.Anyone who has teaching experience knows that two different students may find different approaches to a subject more effective. As to 'technical errors' found by 'elite skiers' I have a feeling nordic skiiers are like musicians. It is said that the only thing two musicians can agree on is the incompetence of a third.Indeed there are a variety of tweeks and variations on each technique that will prove to be effective for each skiier. This book provides ample material for a starting point. This is a really amazing book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incomparable -- an easy resource book
This is the classic comic book version of a telemark skiing text book:brief, clear narrative accompanying excellent cartoon drawings. The book shows both old style (knee down) and new style (no deep dips, feet never widely separated front to back) telemark techniques without really distinguishing between the two but, if you follow the exercises and advice, your skiing will improve. An enjoyable read, an attractive style and price.

3-0 out of 5 stars Shallow facts
You really need Parker's book to understand the tips of this juvenile book. But once you've read Parker's book you immediately realise that this book is just collection of tips from Parker drafted in comics. Without explanations of course. I don'tdo anything unless I believe the tip is sound and this book does not convince me. Yeah, it's funny for a while but it does not supply the enthusiast the facts really needed to improve in free heels stuff.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful pocket book to refer to while skiing.
I've skied with this book for one season now and found that the tips are relevant and enjoyable. Both the beginner and expert can learn from this book. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for cross country and telemark skiers
This is a great book if you are looking for a guide to some of the best cross country and telemark trails, however since i was looking for more of a downhill backcountry guide, this is not really what i was looking for, but it is still a very informative and well written book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An absolutely user friendly outdoor guide
A superbly presented compendium of two dozen classic ski and snowboard tours throughout the states of Vermont and New York, David Goodman's Backcountry Skiing Adventures offersthe best routes, equipment and backcountry riding tips; topographic maps and photos for each tour; information on avalanche awareness, winter camping, gear, safety, and first aid. This absolutely user friendly outdoor guide is a "must" for anyone planning a skiing or snowboarding excursion in Vermont or New York. Also very highly recommended is the other title in this outstanding Appalachian Mountain Club "Backcountry Skiing Adventures" series: Classic Ski and Snowboard Tours in Maine and New Hampshire. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Transform your skiing
Unlike most of the ski books I read, this book helped me zero in on my attitudes-- all the little mental numbers I did on myself while trying to improve or just enjoy skiing. It helped me focus on areas I had problems with, without heaping criticism on myself. It changed the way I learned by teaching me constructive things to replace that inner critic with. "You look so loose and relaxed," an instructor who had worked with me before commented. This book shows you how to allow yourself to learn unencumbered by fears. Things I read here helped me when I learned to inline skate, and pavement is a lot rougher than snow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped overcoming fear
I can only recommend this book. I have been fighting fear on the slopes for three years. This book seems to have freed me of fear. Thanks a lot!

5-0 out of 5 stars 26 years of skiing, 6 teaching, and this book is #1
I rad Inner Skiing about 6-7 years ago, and it changed my skiing life. Most everything written about skiing (and other sports, as far as I can tell) is about technique, tricks, how-to's and so on.Inner Skiing is about being a skier - about the fundamental relationship we have to the snow, the mountain, the skis and ourselves.Read more
